Need advice on window Ac Setup

So here is the setup, running one 600 watt with a 4 inch inline fan duct to the hood. I am also running an ac unit to keep temps down. I have Seen a problem with it freezing up. I noticed it did it over night time. I need to know what is recomended for on/off time cycle for the unit. How often should i have it on for and off for. For Day and Night if it is possible. The unit is 5000 btu's in a 12 by 12 room. Trying keep room temps at 75.

I'm confused by 'freezing' up too.

I've got the same size room and my 7000btu (running at recommended wattage, meaning its not over working) has to run a good bit to keep temps at 86f, but it is 100F outside here, if it is where you are and you're going for 75 i think you'll need more than 5k.

you do have the unit mounted so that the heat exhaust is outside of grow? is unit old or used? it could be the coils are dirty and need cleaning.

...ditto what he said, if by freezing you meant it was shutting off prematurely. Knowing the units watt draw and using a kill-a-watt meter told me when i finally had my units hot parts vented enough.

by freezing he ment the inside coils where it sucks the air in is freezing prolly. thats either from it not getting enough air in there (something in front of the ac, dirty filter, dirty coils) when it thaws u should see goo or something like that there i spray water on the coil and it kinda cleans it.. they make coil cleaner if it needs to be done.. it can also be freezing up from it not having drainage (not being tilted back)

No it only froze over night. I change my timer and woke up everything was nice and clear no ice. It is tilted out the window. I believe i was just turning it on and off to much.

mine was doing the same thing and i cleaned the coils on the inside. i just took a spray bottle with water and cotton swabs and cleaned it.

the filter i cleaned too but i always clean that

might i add, my ac isnt on a timer its on max cool basically 24/7

mine is a 10,000 btu though. you may need to see about getting a bigger unit. i use 10k for a 400w.

for an ac to freeze over there has to be a restriction of sorts. just on and off should not do that.
something in front of the ac like a desk or dresser would do it.. even if it has space because the vent blows the cold air out and just sucks it right back in causing it to freeze, mine has did this. dirty coils on either inside or out, spray water on them to clean with cotton swabs.. i did this too and i cleaned my filter on the inside, tilted it back more and no more freeze.

coils are clean as a whistle. The last two mornings i woke up there was no ice. It had to be how many times it came on and off at night. My temps were 85 for 2 days thats when I noticed my unit coils were iced up. My unit was on high cool i turned to low cool and left timer and temp alone. I shut the unit down till all ice had melted. Cleaned the filter and kept the fan in front. They were iced up again adjusted my timere for longer times off and slightly lowered the temp dial. Its kicking ass, outside temps will hit 100 degrees and still 70 in the room.

Going on and off won't freeze an ac...there is no reason for it to do such a thing...but you'll just have to see if it happens again and then look into it.

you may be right that on and off mutiple times an hour wont freeze those coils. On the other hand tho i have worked in many kitchens and have seen freezer coils freeze up because of the relay switch in the freezer door. If bypassed freezer woorks fine. But Only time will tell.

yea i have exact same setup. My lg window unit(150) for around 6k btus runs 24/7 with little cost and keeps temps at 75 in day 70 and night. RH is ALWAYS 55-60%

i have my 10k btw on all the time.. if the filter and coils are clean you need to put something under the bottom to tilt it back.. i had to with mine too
