Mylar's Point Of Combustion

So I finally got my mother box up and running. There's a 220 watt CFL Nurturlite, Blue, in there keeping the mother alive under 18/6 while I change over to 12/12 on the other plants. I'm worried about heat though. I thought CFLs gave out little heat but this seems to be creating a lot. The light is hanging 3 inches away from the lid, the lid is covered in Mylar and getting quite hot. I'm just worried that it might catch fire when I'm out. Anyone know if this is a real danger?

dude i had the same problem, i just observed the heat on the bulbs, and wiring for a day to check that nothing starts melting in the room. After a couple of days of observation it passed my safety[ inspection

Thanks for that friend. I'll keep a close eye on it and see what happens. It was one today for three hours and the house hasn't burnt down yet. Hopefully it'll stay that way.

Mylar is fire resistant and will just melt not catch fire, if you have some left over place a lighter a 1ft under it and move it upwards and you will see

though if your still worried get a pc fan blowing on the bulbs

what about wrapping paper for prezzies that has a foil type backing. i have used this on my closet walls and my plants seem to love it. its made the closet a lot brighter but i am not sure if its safe. its been up for two days now and seems to be doin fine.

It might be fine but that stuff is a fire hazard so if you don't find other stuff be carefull!

I took a heat gun to mylar today, it did not seem to want to combust, it just got wierd melty. It made me feel better doing a destructive test like that.

A heat gun gets pretty fing hot, like a million times hotter than my HPS hoods get with fan blowing on them...even fan on heat gun is way fing hot.
