My Veggie Garden

You just take your beds and divide them into several one square foot sections. So a 4' X 8' bed would have 32 squares. Them, you plants your seeds or transplants inside the squares according to their spacing needs. For instance with radishes you can plant 16 per square foot. You could put four lettuce plants per square...all spaced 6 inches apart. Onions are the same as radishes....16 per square foot. Bigger stuff like broccoli, cabbage, peppers, and tomatoes require a whole square foot to themselves. This method allows one to grow a bunch of food in the space you have....your beds are perfect for it!. PLus, you can get creative with companion planting to confuse bugs.

it sounds good for the radishes and stuff, but not melons, or cucumber, these things need way more room then that. thank you for the info though, i will look more into this and mabye try it next year on 1 bed and leave the other the same.

With melon and cucumbers you can build simple trellises for the vines to grow up. Melons take cup 2 square feet. I believe they do better when grown vertically...bigger fruit and you dont have to worry about the melons laying in the dirt...and they will mature faster. IF you have some time, google square foot gardening. Lots of info out there.

Last season I had two cucumber plants that produced almost 75 cucumbers for the season-- the vines ran almost 15' along the wire fencing on the back of the garden! I was giving them to anyone who wanted them I had so many-- and got some weird looks trying to pawn of cucumbers to fellow employees. Eggplants are another that can dominate a garden if not given enough space. I look forward to seeing some updated pics of your garden McP. Happy gardening to you!

no they grow great here but the four i started at the beginning of the season got blight pretty bad do to the weather being so stupid at the begining of sumer, so after they were about 4 ft tall i pulled them out and replaced them with 1 foot starters, then those grew about a half a foot before they had blight to. i read that blight is i the soil and that if i have then i dont want to plant tomatos in the same dirt or even in the same area cuz they will sooner or later get blight

OK heres a few pics with my camera phone. the corn is finaly starting to grow corn, got some lemon cucumbers comin in as well. the corn is at least 7 ft tall.i never ended up getting lady bugs and today i went out and found quite a few of them it seems they found my garden them selfs, they are really fat ones to i can tell they've been eating, i have also seen lots of the ladybug larvae around as well. the pic of the jade is my indoor outdoor bonsai attempt, i have another one that is only outdoor, and the other house plant is a hoya plant.

Alright here we go. I started a veggie garden this year because i couldnt grow my own meds in the summer so i have a grower for the time being. I miss growing weed, so i started my veggie garden to keep me occupied, its not near as satisfying as growing weed though. I am also using the garden to further my knowledge on plant life and what they need and what not pretty much plant life.
My soil is 40% top soil and 40% organic compost and 20% humice. I also had to add a few bales of peat moss and black golds organic compost as well to fill the boxes up all the way, the soil also comes ph stable.

Garden specs: 2 raised beds each 4 ft x 10ft x 2 1/2ft deep. I have copper tape around both boxes so no slugs get in cuz we have alot and so far no probs.

PICS.
#1. Raised bed 1, contains 1 cayenne, 1 bell pepper 3 rows of radishes and i have already harvested these 1 time. 1 row of onions, one row of lettuce, and then at the end we have some cucumber, lemon cucumber, watermelon, and cantaloupe.

#2. Raised bed 2, contains 4 tomato plants theri small because i just replaced the last because they had root rot so i pulled they were 4 ft tall already to but all well. also is 3 bel pepper, 3 cayenne, rows of corn and under the corn is green beans climbing the corn. also have a few jade cuts i theri starting to root. also some mint i found so i pulled it and put it in a pot in my garden.

the other pics explain them selfs. the only prob i have is aphids but theri not to bad but bad enough to attract ants. also just discovered spider mites on my corn so i am going to go buy some lady bugs to eat them off. oh and the pic of the brown water is water and a bag of aged horse shit. i added 2 tablespoons of molasses to it also, now what i read was to just let it sit for a few days and then use it ina diluted mix, but this shit is way stinky and has a layer of film on top of the water. is this normal if any one know. my plants seem to love it though.

any questions or advice is always welcome, and i hope i get at least a few followers.:joint::joint::blsmoke::blsmoke::peace:bongsmilie:eyesmoke:

That is scary how much that looks like my garden here in Bc.
