My Steralite CFL Grow

Basically to light proof the box I ended up building a box within the box. The inner box is mostly poly-shield which is basically a reflective surface on styrofoam and all the seams are taped up with aluminum tape.

The intake is a long hole cut in the bottom of the inner box. The steralite box does not have a flat back it actualy dips in across the middle, so the hole backs up to this and the hole in the steralite box is cut maybe a half a foot up. So light has to make two right angle turns to get out. BTW that black peice you see in the pics is no longer there, instead I opted for a piece of black poster board that covers the entire floor.

The exhaust hole is cut for the fan I have in the top and it exists in the separation between the bottom half and the top. There is a opening in the back in the top section of the steralite box where the air is finally out. I use these carbon filter pads to further block light at the final exit and to take care of the smell.

Access to the inner box is another piece of poly-shield that can be removed. It is just cut to fit (needs to be pretty perfect or light will leak out).

The poly-shield and the steralite box by itself will not stop the light though (like i said the box was hard to lightproof :) ). A few coats of black paint to the inside of the box before you install the inner box would probably work... I had to resort to uglier methods though since my inner box was already installed when I figured this out.

Think that covers pretty much everything :)

Day 62 Overall
Day 20 Flowering

Still have purple stems all over the place, been fertilizing every time I water lately with the 8-14-9 Shultz African Violet. The instructions on the bottle say 7 drops per quart every time you water.... Should I be increasing/decreasing this? I've already over fertilized though back in veg and don't want to make that mistake again.

Also... those two bottom yellow (dead?) leaves... any downsides to cutting them off at this point?

looks good! those leaves that dry up...u should try to lightly pluck them off if they do not come off then leave them they will fall! i dnt beleive in cutting it off but if u can pull it gently from the tree fine...also it allows more air flow and since u using cfls it will allow more light penetration!

also it looks as if the last tree has been overwatered..not to sure....

Added in some epsom salt during the last watering as suggested earlier. Having more leaves turn yellow, but I guess it's natural. If not someone let me know :) Other than that nothing much to report.

Day 23 Flowering

Just a quick little update today. The clone is showing roots today so it looks like it survived even though it took a beating. The mother plant is looking pretty good ~1 week after being topped.

Also a couple pics of one of the flowering plants.

My topped plant seems to be doing well... looking pretty these days :) The other untopped plant though still seems to be a straggler, although its been that way since the beginning so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Put the clone in dirt day before yesterday. Both the mother and the clone seem to be doing well. The mother looks like it might need a little bit of fertilizer though haven't fertilized it since it was cloned almost a month ago.

Also a few pics of the flowering plant the mother and clone came from :)

Day 31 Flowering

A little over a month into flowering now. Everything seems to be going well. Only questions left I guess at this point is when will it be done and how much will the two plants yield :)

From my reading it looks like I should cut off fertilizers at least 2 weeks before harvest. Would assuming I have ~1 month to go be about right?

Sweet cabinet just saw the same one today at target. How much total ventilation do you have?
My main box has 1 120mm fan exhaust rated at 85 cfm.... The new box I built has a much smaller exaust fan maybe ~30 cfm.... although I need more.

Day 33 Flowering

Put in a new light for the untopped plant yesterday. All the bud sites on that plant were half way down the plant and I needed something a little closer... should have done it way sooner though.

Threw in a couple pics of the inside of the box with the plants in it. Amazingly even as small as the box is I still have about 2 inches to play with :)
