I was checking my garden for possible risks and when i went to empty the 'excess water' i noticed that the roots were coming thru the 5 gallons! i just put them in the 5 gallons about 5 days ago by the way.... well i noticed that the roots might have sat in the stil water for a short while .. now im worried that the roots arent getting enough nutrients because they are in plain air.. can someone help me with a solution?

if you dont know what im talking about i have my plants in 5 gallon buckets, then i have those 5 gallon buckets inside another 5 gallon bucket so the drainage from the first 5 gallon would get caught in the other 5 gallon... you with me?? but now the roots are coming thru.. please help!

i read somewhere on these forums that if the roots come out of the drain holes that you should snip them off so they dont rot, but dont take my advice as im not too expirienced, wait for a few more replies to get your answer

There isn't anything you can do. It's perfectly normal for roots to grow outwards and downwards, that's what they do. They'll reach out until they come to some kind of obstruction, in this case, air or light. No worries guys, they'll be just fine. The plant has already sent new roots in another direction, doing the same thing, seeking water and nutes. Don't forget, there's tons of roots in that pot, and those ones sticking out, are just the tip of the iceberg. There are plenty to fill their place, and then some.

Just push them back in if they're healthy. If they look unhealthy, snip them. Snipping roots that come out of the bottom won't do anything to the plant whatsoever. You have plenty root structure left, plenty.
