VG, Hey I was out in the garden inspecting things and I came across a problem. Initially I saw some crispy black leave on some of my bud colas. After closer look I saw that there was some type of rot going on. I cut off the top of one cola to take a look. I almost thought I was having a problem with a worm or something, but no worm or pets was seen. My neighbor also has had some buds that have this rot of some type inside his buds. I think it is something entirerly different then worms or pests. Any ideas??? My neighbor mentioned something that starts with the letter B... I couldnt understand what he was saying (mexican speaking) and I wasn't able to find anything online yet.
Could you 1) take a look at the pictures I'll attach
2) share your experience and ideas of what this could be
3) make a suggestion on what I should do or how I might resolve this isse or keep it from happening to other
buds.
By the way... at the bottom left of each picture I wrote what the picture is taken of.

I haven't seen your pictures yet, but I will say any sort of mold is bad for you.

Some years I find a bud or two with mold. Usually somewhere I can't see, due to the plant's density.

I discard them.

In buds with worm damage, you'll often find the central stem chewed on, which is where the mold begins. The worm can usually be found in the bud, unless Bt killed it. They usually drop to the ground before dying.

Finally found the link. Top of the post. On my page the links look just like the rest of the text. I find them easy to miss. I skim a lot. I guess I need to be a lot more careful.

Anyway, yup, mold.

It is difficult to tell the cause. It could be worms, or high ambient moisture. Dense foliage can make the mold problem difficult to deal with.

Are you getting heavy dew? Are you wetting your plants near sundown? Any spraying should be done early in the day.

If you can spread the tops out to provide more ventilation, it will help.

Anyway, keep us posted.

No,not spraying in the evening, but the bay area night air is a problem...I'm not so far from the water in San Leandro. The amount of moisture in the cool night air after these extremely hot days was so great that I went out one morning and was extremely surprised at how wet my plants were.

Also, yes... I am working on thinnng out the inside of my plants and spreading the canopy out some. As you know my plants are pretty dense... and were planted a little to close I believe. Shit... their like 10' puffy balls...growing into each other and all.

Do you think Serenade will help... how long into budding is it safe to be spraying that stuff? Will it Help with mold? Is it a good idea to spray this far into budding?
Also, in your PM you said cut out infected areas... do you mean I can/should cut out the infected area of each bud.. or the whole infected bud. I'm pretty sure you mean just the infected area, but to use my discretion.

Anyway.... thanks for your attention and input.... hopefully others will learn something from this issue.

VG, the weather has changed here in WI down to 47 overnight. Should I worry about covering her or I guess I want to know what temperature do I need to worry about her being outside? Thanks.

Any one have any tips? Got 2 trees one is still getting taller, both are too tall. One has nice pink flowers(real nice smell too, extra fruity), both over 6ft. and need to they have to be stealthier.

Read up on LST.

Most plants can be bent over enough to lower them a foot or two. Don't get crazy. Just lean them down as far as your comfort level will allow. Wait a day, then bend them a bit more. The side branches will try to reach for the sun. They can be tied down as well, 90 degrees from the main stalk.

Botritis(spelling?) Is what your freind was trying to tell you. It's a nasty mold that starts on the inside and just spreads like wildfire. The best thing to do in my experience, is cut off the infected area right away. The moisture in the air is the culprit. @ Veggie: Lookin great as usual my friend, your pics are always enjoyable thanks for sharing!!

yes lst is good but i was wondering the limits and more details, like the parameters of it i suppose. perhaps i will search for an lst sticky or good thread instead of jacking your thread, but following along on your veggie gardening, good luck

Probly around the 25th here and mine shot pistils in july. theyll finish october too. mine are bagseeds im gonna try to figure out the strains cuz they look good:mrgreen::joint:

The most extreme example of LST I've seen(pix) were in Georgia, where they were keeping the plants under two feet, at harvest. This requires a lot of work in the dark. They were hidden in Tomato fields.

The best LST method keeps a bunch of growing tips vying for the top spot(meristem). When one top begins to dominate, you lower it, and let others compete for the top spot.

Great tip, VG. I've been noticing that (meristem) as I watch mine and change things daily. As the branches lay horizontally, it grows side by side buds, so it makes me wonder about totally growing horizontal next season instead of encircling as I've done. What do you think?
