My lost genetics, Cleaning up the seed collection

The seeds I used to make CP1 and all the other Jack Carlos Cross crosses were made in 1988. They were dug out of a freezer when given to me. I guess they had been on ice that whole time. I'm not sure of the germ rate. I tossed several in a pot and had several sprouts.
mine were not stored in a freezer or fridge. just in a cool, dark drawer. there may have been times reached close to 80, but they were rare.

i have changed my storage method now.

A freezer killed all my old strains. But it was after the breaker had tripped and I didn't know it for a few months. The last two summers I have been taking a lot of those seeds off the books. I will plant some veggie seeds in a tray, then dump in some of the old seeds before adding dirt. So far none has popped from the old stuff.

yea, i guess once they come out of the freezer or fridge they should be planted...

The problem in my case was it was in the freezer part of a mini fridge. If you have ever dealt with one, you know they frost up in about 15 minutes. lol

When the breaker tripped, all that frost melted and they sat inside a tin shed most of the summer before I realized what had happened.

yea, that wouldn't be a good environment for storage !!!!

well this thread has been a bust so far. even with the use of GA3.

the indicas got tossed in the planter outside in hopes something comes up later.

scuffed and have soaking in GA3 solution now the following

Haze/Skunk#1 Lucky Dip - Sam the Skunkman
TrainK Dog - B Seeds
White x GK - High Country
Kali Dream - Mod Seeds

i have 3 more sets of seeds from this same era that i forgot about. it is a mix from cannaventure and the other two are what seed boutique used to call 'lucky dip' back in the day. probably all the seeds they found after doing stuff.

after those 3 packs, this thread will basically come to an end, as these are the last packs from 7+ years ago.

i do have a stubborn pack of cali connection pre-98 bubba kush that i couldn't get to pop, so they will be my last attempt with the GA3 solution in this thread. unless i run into another stubborn strain.

The fear of this is one thing that drove me to putting more seeds in soil than I have any business doing. I'd rather not let them set around until they don't pop. Once I get some good crosses and maybe some f2's, then I can set back and just do a sensible grow.

so no movement on that last set of seeds and they have been dumped outside into the planter.

i now have well over $700 in seeds in the planter. maybe something will come up.

so anyway, i have two packs of Lucky Dip. Gypsy Nirvana's shit that feel on the floor and were given away as freebies.

i also have a pack of Cannaventure Mix. in the mix are ECSD, HOG, Lemon Skunk and Pre98 Bubba.

don't have much hope for any of these but they just got scuffed and dumped into GA3 solution.

Dude, that is some change right there. I was bitching about some of my 1-2 year old bought seeds not popping this last round. {When they were new, I dropped 3-4 each of 8 strains. To the best of my memory, only 1 of those failed to pop. And they have not had the best of storage for much of that time} Coupled with the fact I only paid $110 for 80 seeds {counting freebies}, I really don't have anything to complain about.

yea, i used to be dumb like that. buy a shitload of seeds and then just run clones of sour diesel for years, lol...

no more... my seeds are getting wet within a year of purchase, maximum...

well, just as this thread was to die, i have had success on 1 of the 3 last packs. the seeds came out of a lucky dip mix from seed boutique back in the day. there really is no way of knowing what they are. even if they are indica leaning or sativa.

anyway, 2 got tails and 1 is above ground. will see what they look like.

finally a little success.... damn, that was hard...

i had good intentions with the older seeds i am checking, but for various different reasons these never made it into the rotation.

space is not the restraint i once had. can play with different strains/tents/sexes/etc, now
I can't wait to say space is no longer a problem for me

well, it's still a problem, just not as much as it used to be when i was restricted to cabinets and tents.

now that i have more room, i want a greenhouse, lol bongsmilie
That's what I'm working on now , getting 80 - 160 acres so I can do both indoors and outdoors & definitely building a greenhouse or two or three lol
