were you expecting to get a 70w hps AND a 80w mh at HD for under $70? No offense, but good luck with that one. In my opinion if you are on a budget, get CFLs, yeild is less but much cheaper. If you are hell bent on an hps, look on ebay, maybe even look for the ballast sold separate from the bulb. I saw a 150w ballast on there for $20 the other day, and you can get a bulb for like $10 or so. But that is kinda like a very hard find.

mrgreenthumb,

That price is outragous. Go to home depo or lowes or something, those 'reflectors' that they are selling are like $4 or something, super cheap shop light stuff. As far as the bulbs go, just get a cool white and a soft white bulb (two total), that's just about the same thing. Each one will cost like $5 or something. Total, for what they are selling, you can get at home depo for less than half the cost.

it all depends on the wattage and lumens. The sun produces 10,000 lumens per square foot on an average sunny summer day. A 100 watt 'replacement' cfl (meaning it's really only 23 watts) will produce about 1600 lumens. So if you get four of them, that's about 6400 lumens. If you keep them close to the two plants, and are lighting only one square foot of space, you should be ok. You arn't looking at 'potent ass small plants', for one because they are cfls, and for two because your wattage is lower than that of the sun, but it would certainly be worth it. You'll enjoy it, as long as you take care of your girls.

If HD still has the 100watt HPS security light for $34.50 then snag it. It puts out 10,000 lumens and will grow dense buds on a single plant. Thats probably cheaper than buying all those CFL's equivalent in lumens. It will be hotter though, but not unmanageable. I can't believe this thread is still going.

Note that you may be able to find what you want on the Home Depot website, if you're OK with mail order. I see HPS and MH security lights up to ~175W there, although a number of them are back-ordered (and aren't really much of a deal over hydro suppliers.)
