My home depot has a bunch of security lights for sale. HPS, Metal Halide and flouro. All about 20-50% off. Looks like they will no longer carry them. They had a nice looking flouro for $29 and 100 watt HPS for $50. Just thought I would let anybody know who was interested.

Last week I got a 100 Watt HPS security light setup from my HD for $34.50. I picked that over a $29.00 MH setup, which I might just go back for.

I dont understand why you guys mess with those little hps lights from home depot, your not saving any money, you can get a legit 400 watt hps system ready to plug & grow from several places online for $140 ,shipped right to your door, add up 4 of the HD lights & you have the same price, then you still need to buy wiring & plugs, then wire them all up,it ends up costing more.

Im not trying to insult i just dont get the logic of it.

i agree with panhead.. your much better off just buying a 400.. i know a 100w hid is better than CFLs... but if your going to go hid then dont half ass it... your just gonna end up buying a better light anyway

i agree with u 100%..only thing holding me back from ordering ofline is that i dont want a hps light to get shipped to my house "in the ghetto" with my cc with my "name adress ect." i avoid paper trail 100%..there no "hdryo" or "garden" shops any where around here,so i gutta work with what i got!

Go to Rite Aid drug store & buy a Blue Dot Mastercard, then register it under the name Frank Zappa or Elmer Fudd, you can put the exact amount you need on the card for whatever you need to buy online.

Call your local UPS store & get their address, they are a franchise & not connected with the UPS corporation in any way & will receive any & all packages for you, they will hold packages as well until you can get them, they do this for a very small fee like $5 or some shit.

Forget Ebay, call HTG Supply on the telephone & place your order direct, give them the Frank Zappa credit card info & use the shipping address of your local UPS Store to have the package shipped to.

No paper trail with your name on it,no address with your name on it,no credit card with your name on it,no sweat.:blsmoke:

Thats exactly how you do it,you can even go in person to the UPS Store & introduce yourself when you ask for the address, that way they will remember you.

I have a ton of shit shipped in from all over the world that way,its flawless.

Smaller HPS is for small scale growing. All some people need is 100 watt. I started this thread to save those people a little $$$$. Hope it helped. If you are growing on a larger scale then HD is not the place for you to get lights.

Yeah, I have a cabinet that might be able to take a 150W or less HID, but absolutely not a 250 or 400.

Still, I'm not excited about modifying the lights I've seen at HD. You have to rewire them to defeat the night/day photosensor, and cutting holes in the enclosures to aircool them is a pain in the ass.

I'd rather just buy the actual parts that comprise the fixture if I need something smaller than I can buy from a hydro supplier. The only time I'd buy a pre-assembled security light would be if it were very simple (e.g. no photosensor, etc) and cheap enough to justify disassembling it for parts, to be reassembled in a more suitable enclosure (easy enough to make with some sheet metal and a small piece of tempered glass.)

The only mod a photo sensor needs is a peice of tape over it so it'll leave the light on 24/7,right.

Mmm....does that really work well/reliably enough? They installed freaking photo/motion sensors on the light switches in my office at work and tape wasn't enough to defeat them.

If I didn't feel I had to disable the photosensor, the security lights would certainly be more attractive.

Also, while I'm bitching, a pox upon Intermatic for deciding that everyone needs "security timers" with fifteen minute randomization and for refusing to sell additional trippers anywhere. (3 settings my ass. I see the notches and the switch mechanism plain as day.)
