Try this I love it. Im tellin u this werks never failed me yet and ive only had 1 seed not sprout. Never germinate in the AG.. I heard that u might flood the seeds from the pumps being on 24/7.. I always do the papertowel method.. I lay down 2 sheets of paper towel then cut a piece of aluminum foil same size of paper towels but leave a inch overlap on both sides. I put the aluminum foil on the bottom soak the shit outta the paper towels then place seeds down.. Fold it in half and fold the egdes over.. I put under a light for heat and watr 2 times daily.. 5 days and u should have at least 3-4 inch sproutings.. I had the same problem tryin to germinate in the AG. 2 seeds died or wouldnt sprout.. Replanted 2 more 1 made it and the other poked a lil white peker thru and never moved again.. Next time try my method and see what im talkin about..

What does AG stand for, Aerogarden?
Im not at a stage for using water pumps yet.
Im not having any problems with germination, are you stating that allowing the seeds to stay longer in between the paper towels will encourage the seed to show sprouts faster?

Get back to me I could do with the advise.

my bad iloveit.. Ya i have done the paper towel method for years.. I could keep them in the paper towel for 7-10 days and they would grow over 8-12 inches and transplant them. But i was sayn i never lost a seed maybe 1 doin this.. Tryin to germinate in rockwool or sponges takes longer and absorbs alot of water (sometimes killing the seeds). Im not an expert but ive done this for like 8 years and they grow fast and usually every seed sprouts.. I dont give it direct light i put it in the paper towel aluminum foil set up explained before and water everyday 2 times a day maybe 3 and use a desk light and put it over it for heat. U will see after like a day maybe 2 tops sprouting will occur and i have kept it there for over a week and they have gotten to be over a foot with the root. O ya when i water them i would use a spray bottle and give them a nice coat 2-3 times a day becuase the heat from the light evaporates water and the seeds will absorb what they need. No flooding or over watering.. Hope this makes sense iloveit

if u want me to post pics of how i do it i can do that 4 u..

My chalenge is in sprouts (not tap roots) after Ive placed the germinated seed in rockwool with the fluros on 24/7 they seem to die. Although Al B fuct has told me not to water too much & to use H2O2.

If you have any info or pics which may assist me in this part of the process then please share.

Thanks again for your consideration (good god I sound so corporate )

Ok here we go again another 2 seeds germinated one showed a tap root the other did not its the usual but this time Ive added H2O2 to the watering and misting and PH is at 5.8 the seed with the taprot is in Root riot the other is in RW as usual Ill let you guys/girls know when (if) something new happens.

These mother fucking bastard seeds better fucking show root mass or something or Im gonna spray em with lady squirt juice this time! Argggggggggghhhhhh!!!

Hello again would you be able to post pics of what fresh new roots are supposed to look like after a few days I cant take any more of these seeds dying on me (over £100 down the drain already).

sup man ... do you have any plants goin yet ?
looks like you started trying to germinate a month ago ?

whus up, germination is not a problem its the after process that is. As soon as they have germinated I place them in rw & a few days later they die from mould. At the moment Im watering with H2O2 as recommended by Al B Fuct lets see the results after a week I keep you posted. Be well.

Hi iloveit, sorry to hear of your germination problems,

When I germ my seeds in 1" rockwool blocks I soak overnight in a nutrient solution at an EC of 6, I remove the block from the solution and give the block 2 or three shakes to remove most of the water.

Then I place the seed in the blocks and place in a warm not hot, dark place (around 72/74f) until the seedling pops its head above the surface. I then treat it as I would an adult plant, at this stage it is a bad idea to have the block or humidity too damp as it can lead to damping off.

Hope that helps if you have any more questions fire away.

Thanks for the quick reply but I still have more questions:
Ive been switching the light on as soon as the seed is in RW is this wise or should I leave them in the dark until a sprout is visible on the surface?

Also what is the ideal temp & RH humidity for them at this stage?
And this chamber is very small and does have a constant airflow would it best to take the prop dome off?

Thanks again.

The light isnt needed until the seedling surfaces, temps in the low 70's means less chance of trouble, slightly higher temps will result in faster germination. Once the seedlings have emerged the humidity should be around 60%. If you can maintain temperature and humidity without the propagator lid then remove it, if nor keep it on!.

hello iloveit.your set up is awesome i would have that any day of the week for sure.as for your sprouting problems if i can give you some advice about growing and im not saying i know every thing there is to know, but if you can approach it with a bit of common sense and i dont mean that horribly. just think about the plants natural cycle and think of what happens to that plant outside for it to grow or any plant for that matter and not to fluff around it like picking it up squeezing it or hugging it, til later.well thats enough preaching.i wiil tell you how i get my seeds to sprout not germ cause you seem to be doing that fine i do not use rockwool, i use coco-coir.so once they have germed fill a small pottle with coco-coir and poke a small hole in it about 5 ml drop your seeds in sprout down with a pair of tweezers being careful not to touch the sprout and litely cover the hole and a genle tap of coco.and place under a 400hps about 30 cm away and keeping the coco damp which is easy to tell with by the weight and colour change and after 2 days i have sprouts poking up thru the coco and then place them abit lower so they do not burn from the light and NO NUTES at all just ph water for at least 2 weeks by then they should be ready for a repot.here are some pics, good luck and let us know how you get on:peace:

P.S-most seeds outside will not sprout unless the soil tempreture is 18 degrees centigrade
P.P.S-you dont want to get ph down or ph up on your skin toxic very toxic!
1st pic-sprouting seeds after 2nd day being in coco

2nd pic-see the cracking of the coco another seed will poke its head up tommorw

3rd pic-distance away from light to get a sprouting seed

4th pic-after sprout the distanc from light is about 40cm-50cm and see the pottle on the right with my recently sprouted seedlings

that sucks man, how many of those seeds you have left now ?
you should consider sticking one in soil make a mother .. then try to do the hydro thing with the clones. every seed that has cracked for me 100% came up through the soil and are living:weed:

Ps I should probably know this but what system are you going to be growing the plants in?

Heath

Thanks for that Heath Ive disconnected the heated Prop (the heat generated from the fluros should bring it down to about 24C).

At the moment Im planing to raise a mother in a GHE water farm (I made my mind up after I read your journal & saw your pics on the Water farm from HG420) believe it or not your journal inspired me to begin the grow :blsmoke:

Ive purchased a new 4-pot Atami wilma system for the flowering period just to get a feel of how its done (yep I read your journal on the drip system too thats why I bought it).

Ill be using the "Get a harvest every 2 weeks" method which is why I dont have a veg chamber.

But of course this will only be possible if these seeds grow :wall:

I have only 2 seeds remaining

I really dont want to downgrade but I probably will.

Thats a great guide for reference thanks though Im growing in Hydro I may have to downgrade to soil. Your 100% right I was not considering the natural environment its used to.

I don't know about Pukka BB, but DP BB, while it may be my all time favorite, can be a real bitch to grow, specifically to get going at first. I have a couple now that are eight weeks and tiny but filled with rolled up leaves. They look like weeping willow trees - no shit - you would not know they are pot unless you were told. One I put under 12/12 for a month and it showed no sex. I have two successful girls that are doing wonderfully but they were puny starting out and the leaves did not look like pot leaves. Now in flower they are fine and they clone well.

I leaned to start BB in neutral starting medium such as Miracle grow seed starter. I usually start everything in FFOF but it's too hot or something for the BB and they just die after they sprout.

Good luck - BB is tough to grow at first but worth it.
