My first grow. PICS!

1/21/08-okay im trying to grow weed in my closet. i live with my dad and i dont want him to find my plants so my set up is small for now. my plants are a couple weeks old. i dont remember the exact date i planted them but ohh well. i use a 24 inch fluorescent light. i lined the inside of my grow box with foil to reflect light, and i cut a hole i the side of the box and put a fan there to circulate air. i cover it up with a blanket so my dad wont see the light and its working pretty well so far. any question, comments, and tips are appreciated.


also, is it possible for me to flower my plants with the fluorescent light i have? do they make a fluorescent bulbs that are powerfull enough for the flowering stage?

I would start off by taking the plants out of those clear cups asap scince light kills roots. If you can switch to mylar cuz foil causes hot spots and might burn ur plant. And as for the lighting i would recommend a cfl grow.. thanks for the advice dude. ill switch the cups asap. and how much would cfl grow lamp and bulb cost me?

I would buy as many as u really want of these http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=62579-3-29786&lpage=none for flowering and these http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=88959-371-60058&lpage=none for veg. and ask the guy at your local lowes for a y splitter or just the plain light fixtures i used but their more expensive. U'll need a extension cord like the one i used and wire the fixtures individually to the same cord or wire them to all diff extension cords, you're pick.. and thats about it, any more questions just ask me.

okay sorry if this sounds like a n00b question. but how much does the watt of the bulb matter? also, im no electrician and i have no clue how to wire stuff together. but thanks for showing me those lights. ill def pick some up when i switch to 12/12.

Check out my grow, bro. I used the cheapest lights you can @ $0.50 each, my lamp holders were cheap, and I can give you even more covert methods for your light. All you need is a couple of power strips, the socket adapters that plug into the power strips, and these cheap ass lights and you can be golden!

Also, when you transplant into bigger, non clear containers, be sure to actually put some soul in there!

Basically the more watts the better... Also when u go get them dont go by the "cfl replacement wattage" look for the actual wattage of the light. For example, look at this pic, it says 150 watt replacement but its actually 40 watts. Im running a total of 300 watts in my room with one plant and its looking great! And as for wiring the stuff together all it takes is stripping the wires, twist them together, and buy wire caps to prevent fire, or ur wires comming disconnected. I was like you, i had no idea how to wire anything but its acutally really easy. Their are tons of cheap ways to hook sum cfl's up with a budget, i think i spent $50 all total for my lighting all said and done. Good luck bro! u'll be smokin ur own herb in no time if you do enough research on here.

a few last questions....for now. haha

i was looking at bulbs today and would a higher watt bulb make my plants grow any heathier or bigger than lower watt bulbs? IF SO, what watt bulbs should i use for flowering and for veg.? also, if i use higher watt bulbs, will i need to move the light further away from the plant, or will it matter?

ok last question, how many cfls will i need? one per plant or a whole army of lights? lol

Many ways, no right or wrong, just what works best for you and your plants

yeah u definately need enough soil to nearly fill each cup, leave 1" from top of cup, nd definately cover your cups with duct tape or sumthin, ur plants are gunna stretch cause there so far down inside the cups, away fro the light, ur roots will also have nothing to grab onto to keep them stable, nd u should also think of getting an ocselating fan in there

ok first off get them plants in some bigger pots ASAP
when your plants start to get bigger there is no way you are going to have enough room
the flourescent light you have is not gonna be ennough, og to home depot and buy yourself a shop light and 6500k daylight flourescent tubes
again you are not going to have enough room and your dreams most likely are not gonna come true judging by the limitations you have but i wish you the best of luck and i will keep watching

first off, i already know my light arangement isnt adequite. what does a shop light look like? couldnt i just put a 6500k daylight tube in the lamp i have now?and tonight im building a new grow box to acomidate my plants when they get bigger. and how much longer can i keep my plants in those cups before they get to big?

One daylight tube is not enough! Do some research in the cfl thread and the do it youself thread and u can come up with a combo sufficient for you.. And take a trip to lowes and browse around the lighting section, it's not really all that hard man. Basically all u need to grow is, as many lights as u want (most ppl use as many as they can), a sufficient amount of air circulation (should circulate whole room in a 5 min. period), good soil (not dirt from the back yard, lol), nutrients (if you're not growing with soil that already has nutes).

if i get new lights today ill post an update with pics tommorow.

here is a easy cfl light i made. you need a light bar, 3 plugs with sockets, 3 y sockets, a piece of white aluminum. a couple of zip ties. i am using 6 23w bulbs. 4 6500k and 2 2700k. they dont get that hot.

Nice setup closetkiller! Gotta love the versatility of cfl's!

oh yeah. out of need. i have one finishing so i started those. cheap light works good.

okay so i got new lights. im still using the long fluorescent tube but i added three 20watt cfls and one 26watt cfl.i also bought a timer for my lights so now i have them on 18 and off 6. I KNOW i still need to get dif cups that arnt see through. ill get to that soon bc i know my roots can die.

let me know what u think of the new lights and any suggestions of how i can improve are welcome

wow just wated to add that withing the first 20 minutes of having those new lights, my plants have gotten SO MUCH greener.
