My first DIY growbox and grow, need some help!

ive heard of ppl doing the whole thing with cfls with incredible results, the trash can idea is just a simple easy quick light tight way, and cheap also saves time i was going to build a grow box but i realised i could just as easily cut holes in the lid of a rubermaid tote and run my wires for lights through those and mount the fixture to the underside of the lid.
 
Yea, to be honest with you, I really like working with wood for making stuff. Always made decks and shit with my dad etc, so my first thought was t make it all wood.
 
I did CFL's all the way for my first grow but in the end I was running close to 400w of CFL's. I switched to a 270w HPS and easily doubled my yield even though I dropped wattage.
 
well it isnt about wattage really more important is intensity i believe lumens is the word, also light spectrum is important.

yeah me to but i couldn't argue withe the quick convenience of what i did i didn't have the money for building materials. so it what was best for me at the time
 
Yea, my plans to do all kinds of building before work today got shattered. I woke up 10 minutes before work and was late as hell. I walked in, boss said "fuckin stoner kid" and laughed.

So, tomorrow I plan on doing what I planned on doing today.

Still can't decide what exactly to do. I am thinking about not doing a mother. I just wanted to have 4 plants growing in a bubbleponics tub, and then just take them one at a time to flower, and clone from them before flower. I can do this as a full perpetual system with no gigantic mother to worry about. I am correct in this thinking? Are there any huge down sides to doing this?

You can keep a mom pretty small. Mine is only 14" tall and is actually do for a trim.

See, I am slowly starting to use more and more of it, but it is a rental and I don't want to get too crazy with it. Plus I would hate to have built such a nice box to just have it be worthless now. How could I set it up with the Box too?
 
well is there any way we could mayb see pictures of what you got i can pitch ideas if i can see what your working with.

Found the door that is going to fit the front area pretty nicely, but at as you can see it has gaps on the top and left side.

I'm going to mount the door to the top right of the opening so that the gap is on the left and the bottom.

The bottom gap is going to be my passive air intake for the closet, adn I will build a frame for the left side of the door.

i grew in a rental for 2 years in a bedroom closet. are you wanting to take the boxes with you when you move or something. if not why bother just make a door and use the whole thing. and use the box you have already made for your mother. and dont worry about what its gonna be like when you move some other stoner kid will prob move in and be like huh some one use to grow here glad he done all the work for my room. its just like your passing it on to someone. lol the key is making use of all the space you got without wasting light and from wat i can tell you gotta a good space your gonna ruin by putting a box in whats already a box
 
If you were going to go with a hps for flower I would use a cool tube. I don't think your box is wide enough to do it..? I would keep a mother hands down but like another person said keep her small. You will be surprised how small you can keep them if you keep them trimmed. The bucket thing is cool but the bucket will kill your headspace so I would use a Rubbermaid tub or something like it. They will be smaller so you can get better height from the plant. I would just stick her ass in a short 2gal pot and call her good. That will also keep her height down too. You could get away with a 3ft tall box for the mother and clones; at least it is working for me anyway. I will post some pics of my box if you like so you can see what you can do with a box 6ft tall 3ft wide and 3ft deep. It might help after seeing all the stuff in there anyway. All of my stuff is just about DiY stuff so I could work in that size space.:leaf:
 
Yea, I am using the entire closet now, but I am still putting my mother in the box in the closet, so she needs a door cover deal. I was going to build more today, but I bought the new batman game instead...and it's a stoner's paradise. haha
 
i have grown in 3 ft tall space a few times , and it can be done. I used 6 inch tall container ( rubbermaid) to veg and flower. Ran out of space as the girls grew taller and you end up having to tie them down. you need to do this for height as well as allowing light to penetrate. I also had to take the light off the top and lean it on the wall next to the plant making sure daily that no buds or leaves touched the bulbs and burned.( burnt a couple of big buds once broke my heart.) this box was 2' by 2' by 3 'tall. used a 24''T5 6 bulb and eventually added a 125watt 3300k cfl that I hung against the top when the T5 had to go against the side so that i could get more light to the buds opposite the T5. anyway I guess it can be done with a 2' height but it will be hell unless you get some lowryder or anything that grows super short.

My babies arrived today! I am going to make a journal for it eventually, but I still am going ot have questions abotu the box later.

5 Feminized Snow White seeds from Nirvana were waiting for me stealthily hidden inside a sheep plush keychain with a small pouch. I enjoy the sheep too so it's completely win win.

ANywho, getting these babies are my motivation. I already set my alarm for 9:00AM and I am getting this shit going. Tomorrow I am going to get my entire hydro set-up built, hang the door, clean the area, mylar the area, set up the lighting, and hopefully set up the ventilation. I have until 5pm to work so it is possible.

I now find myself with one issue. I am lost as far as getting nutrients, and all that fancy jazz. I suppose I should head over to the hydro side of the world to get a shopping list from the pros? Where can I find net pots? I am not sure if there is a hydro store near me or not, so is there a bigger corporate walmart kinda deal that has them?

nutrients are expensive really the good 1s. i would go tell them your growing tomatoes and you need some good starter nutes get a feeding chart for sure and use what it says if you only use a 2 part or 3 part you need all the trace elements
 
How much is really expensive? I am willing to pay quite a bit to guarantee better results you know? I know it is kind of frowned at, but can I just order them online? I could always use a prepaid visa if I felt it could compromise something...
