My first Crop, Journal 1.

Hey, I just started my first grow. Hindu Kush, OG Kush, and White Widow, the set up is in my closet. Height is about 8ft, Length is 4ft or so. I live in the bay area in CA. I planted the clones to a 7 gallon bucket yesterday (12/29/2010) When I woke up my OG started to wilt, (my lights were 14 inches from the plants [400watts, HPS] and now moved them up to about 36 inches) After I woke up and saw the plants, I watered them, sprayed the leaves as well, like an hour later it looked better. But my W.W. showed a little yellow on the leave. I didn't notice it when I woke up, but I added some Fox Farm Big Bloom, maybe a little too much, I then added a little more water with no nutes, then I turned the lights off and left to work.

I'm curious; did my OG wilt a little because there was no fan in my closet? AND, how pivotal is the need for one? IF I MUST set one up, what's the best way to go about it? I very much appreciate any help.

I'll add better photo's tonight.photo.jpgphoto (1).jpgphoto.jpgphoto (1).jpg

dude i would sy set up a fan, airflow is really nice for makin them trunks get an excercise and they get a lot stronger, i hope you got some intake air and exhuasting air, i would hate to c them babies growin up in stank air

Word, I'm thinking the same thing. I was thinking of setting two up. One on top above the lights blowing gently downward, and then a second small fan by the plants, blowing it out the closet. You think that's proper?

it does sound proper, have a fan blowing inbetween the plants and the light, it gets rid of heat that we dont want. the fan you blow on the plants shouldnt be set on high, dont trash the babies, i prefer i lil shudder from them every now and then, you know the air is fuckin with its stem if the plant is movin from the forced air. all i got is a 3 speed box fan macgyvered by two shoelaces above my lights in my 3x3veg closet, i have it blowing downward and it seems just fine, they shudder nice, and i have 10 48" t8's in there so heat isnt so bad, there is still fuckin heat but it would be worse if you had a bigger setup like you, i had a 600hps/mh in a cool tube hood in there before this, it was hooked up to a 440cfm inline fan , it was still hot so i feel ya..... but yea, give dem da wind brother

you just want an oscillating fan blowing on the plants, if you have a fan constantly blowing on the plants they will waste energy building stronger stems than you want. one oscillating fan blowing on the plants and a single exhaust fan (with a carbon filter if you don't want smell) will do just fine for what you have. the yellow on the leaves you spoke of could be nutrient burn. 36 inches might be a little far, keep the light as close as you can without burning the leaves. (hold your hand under the light, if its too hot for your hand then its too hot for your plants) i keep my 1000W HPS about 1.5-2 feet away (maybe a little farther during flowering to keep the buds from getting too hot)
also Fox farm big bloom? I havent used this but isnt this a nutrient you use more during flowering? not for vegging? help me on this one

you could just have an exhuafan going out of the room if the room is airtight, then once you turn that fan on it can suck in fresh air, make the surface area of your exhuast vent about 1/2 the size of the surface area of your inlet vents... youll have to make some inlet vents if you wanna do this, unless the closet isnt airtight then it will exchange air anywho.... i still have the 440cfm inline fan suckin out the warm air from the veg closet , it is light tight, but there are a few spots where new air can come in.......

the big bloom is part of the lie-up , you use it in veg and flowering if you go by what they tell you to do, it is made to use in conjunction with the others, if you dont you will notice your plants lacking a wee bit of this or that throughout your grow

no kiddin man, i did not ever hear that before about constant wind on stems opposed to osscillating.... seems damn logical though, good input

Fox farm big bloom is to be used throughout. While vegging and flowering till the last week to flush everything out. Its what i've been told?

And yeah, the yellowing, I think it was because of the light. I added water plus a tiny bit of the big bloom equally to all of the plants. 200ml each. the OG was right underneath the light in the middle, it wilted but adding water helped it a lot. the plant next to that; the WHITE W had a tiny yellowing.

I'm going to look for an oscilating fan.

I have another Q. Ive looked on here about PH and I still feel slightly lost. Do you check PH in the water you use? Or PH in the soil? Or both..

ALSO, HUGE thanks to you guys helping with words. I'll keep this journal up to date with photo's and info. I'm really stoked on the OG and WW. Those are the ones that make my eyes glimmer. haha.. Also, my lease is up at the end of March. Would vegging for only 2 weeks plus a few days be dumb to do?
I keep hearing 3-4 weeks to vegge.

you should find out what your waters ph is without any nutes added, then add your nutes, take another reading.... if it between 6-7 you can call yourself good to go

test the ph of your water before adding it, then test the ph of your soil afterwards to ensure its right. If your soil is WAY out you may need to flush
3-4 weeks vegging is optimal but you can flower at any time if I'm not mistaken

you can have them on 12/12 from seed and once they get SEXUALLY MATURE , then they will bud out, its all on how long it takes em to get mature when they will bud, everything that i have seen and read leads me to think that 4-5 weeks veg is around the time your babies will get sexually mature and if you put em in flower before that then you are just not allowing them as much light as you could get them if you leave them in veg lights until sexually mature.

Ok, cool. I think i'm going to do 2 weeks plus a day or two of vegging.

I'm going to try and get that fan tomorrow. I'm thinking of getting something like this, http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&productId=100658981&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=100658981&cm_mmc=shopping-_-googlebase-_-D29X-_-100658981&locStoreNum=1092&marketID=21
Putting that above by the lights to blow down, and setting up a small computer fan down to blow out the door. Would that work okay?

Hey, here's three days after they've been planted. I really need help with this.. My OG Kush suffered from the light the first night. It was too low, I tried saving it, I'm now wondering if these two OG's can be salvaged. My two white widows look like they're showing a little yellow. One of my hindu kush looks good but the other in the other pot looks iffy...slight curl under the leaves.

In order are pic1) white widow. pic 2) hindu kush pic3) white widow pic4)hindu kush pic5) is the OG kush which looks a little too sad.
