kat your light seems way too close with hps its not always the heat you can feel when you put your hands buy the plants that causes the damage for sum reason they dry out even if its not that hot when the light is too close, i like the set up a wardrobe is exactly how im doing my indoor at the moment altho iv just got my hands on £2000+ worth of grow equip for next time so im lookin forward too settin it all up, if i remember right your seeds were germinated about the same time as mine but your plants seem a lot smaller than mine so i was wondering wot your feedin if anythin yet an how regular you water?
are thay in soil?
iv just put a pic of my plants on so you can see what i mean all the black potted plants are the same age as yours an the 5 yellow potts are a week younger
also "i" personally would trim off the burnt leaves but id ask a few others for there apinion first as im not that experienced
good luck
Hey, thanks for the input, how high do you think I should raise it? It's about 16-17 inches above the plants now, which was moved up from before. The ones of yours that are the same age, is that of the Day 12 ones or our oldest one? Everything got a bit slowed down for awhile while we were waiting for the 4 younger plants to sort of catch up to the older one. They've only been under the light for a couple days and have just been catching sunlight up until then.

We fed them for the first time last night... unfortunately Daisy has died and Angel near enough, I don't think she'll pull out. Yuna and Yuffi are showing the same signs the last 2 did, with yellow/white starting at the tips of the older leaves, moving in and drying out. They are all in a soil mix of organic veg composte, perlite and vermiculite. I know we should have done some blood/bone meal, lime, etc mixed in, but we didn't. I just figured we could start on the biobizz earlier. We are going to upgrade our soil mix for the next re-pot. At the moment, we are probably watering every 3-5 days, but I felt like I needed to mist the soil most days as it was being dried out so much by the light (I'm sure much worse if it is way too close) I'm quite certain that the PH is a bit high as well, but I have to wait til my soil sample dries out to test it (I tried once, but didn't let it dry, so it didn't work well) Although I know PH is somewhat of an issue with organics. We have some BioCanna PHdown that should arrive today or tomorrow and I can properly test the soil today so we'll see what the crack is! I am a bit nervous to cut off the leaves that are dry, since the little ones only have 4 leaves with two new ones just starting in today! I know a lot of people say to leave them and let stuff fall off naturally, but I can't see the dried out ones changing, so I will def consider it. I really hope we can get our shit stabilized before we massacre the rest of our poor babies! I'll take some more updated pics tonight as well since they are looking quite different (all in the bad way cept Mary Jane lol)

how old and large were they when they started getting feed? and how much feed? i found that the cali hash was very tolerant to whatever i gave it really. that does look all crinkly as if it were heat stress, but you say it doens't feel too hot, which is odd.

what inda PH meter are you using, i would highlly advise a digital meter as opposed to a 2 prong analogue POS

your soil seems fine, with a good mixture in there, so it's rather baffling. i think i'd have to say something to do with the light, although 18 inches is the normal. what kind of reflector? is it a cooled hood or just an open bulb? what humidity is it in the cab? needs to be nice and high (although this is ironic in itself considerting i don't give two damns about my won cabs humidity :P)

whats the temp in there Katt? they look at first glance a little overwatered, but if the leaves are drying out crispy they it could be too much water and drying out too quick if its a bit george and andy in there!

have you got fresh air coming in and hot air exhausting out?

i hadnt realised youv only just put them under the hps that changes things quite a bit if thay have only been gettin sun light you should see a massive improvement after a few days under the hps as for the hight of the light i have mine 36" above the plants when ever i see signs of problems i always flush the plants as that always stops/rules out salt build up an would advise you to do the same as it cant cause problems then dont water for at least 36 hours, the ages of mine are - all black pots poppd soil on the 11th an 12th april an yellow pots poppd on 16th 17th april but thay were under 70w hps as soon as thay poppd for 3 or 4 days an then straight under 400w hps
i wouldn pannick too much as the size is pretty much deffinatly to do with just gettin sun light also if you can get too a hydro shop or anywhere that sells coco try an actually pick up a hand full of wetted coco thats ready to use an see how light n fluffy it is an when you squeze it together it wont stay in a solid lump i found that the easiest way to see what your soil should be like as my top 44 plant i got given a few months back was in soil that was solid an realy struggled to grow for the first few weeks
lastly i water 3/4 of ann egg cup full mornin an night when there in small potts the same kinda size as party cups

Last night was their first feed, the youngest plants were 12 days old (that's day 1 starting from breaking soil in it's pellet, not germination) I used Bio-Grow, 1.5 ml to a 1/2 litre of water.

I don't have a proper PH meter, I had ordered a PH+NPK kit to test the soil which is the adding solutions sort of thing... not that precise, but I didn't know when I bought it exactly what the readings would be like. I've heard a lot of people say PH is more difficult to really keep neutral in organics (dunno how true that really is) I want to get a nice PH meter, but an expensive one isn't really in the budget right now.

The light is just an open bulb. We don't have anything to measure humidity right now, any suggestions on what exactly to get? I was kind of banking on something like that not making or breaking the operation so we could get away with not buying one or two things for the time being (like til our next grow since we've bought so much stuff)

you want an accurate ph meter, even if just to use it once so you can dial in on how many drops of PH down. i now know that 10 drops of ph down in 4 liters of water has me at 5.5 so never have to use it unless i change up the mix. i personally don't use a humidity moniter, i've never seen a reason why, i havn't got mould growing and nothings died. on the whole though your ph probably isn't going to be the issue due to how well soil acts as a buffer. my ph cost £25 off ebay, and 8 months down the line only reads out by +0.1 which isn't bad at all considering you're supposed to bin em every 6 months.

do you have a fan blowing over the top of the plants yet? sorry if you've already writtten all this up, lazy stoner ya know :P don ight be on track with his thinking, and in terms of the dryness, it could be that any moisture in the leaves is being cooked off either by the light or maybe wind burn. look at TT regurgitate every problem he's encountered :P

i generally don't start with any nutes until they hit a certain size and give signs, maybe 1.5-2x the size of that last pic in the many pic upload :)

I'm not sure the temp right now as we've gotten home and don't have any replacement batteries for the thermometer lol. It doesn't feel overly warm in there though. It feels like it's somewhere in the 70-75F range at the highest, but I'll get some batteries tomorrow and find out for sure.

We don't have a proper exhaust/fan thing set up inside the wardrobe, but the window is open and the wardrobe kept open because of that. We seem to get pretty good circulation in there that way (for now). There is a ceiling fan above it and it's a rather small room although the chain has pulled out of the fan part and I'm waiting for hubby to figure out how to fix it or replace it with one from another room.

Yeah, we knew it would cause them to not grow very fast at first, but we had problems with a couple of our seeds and had to germinate some more after the first plant had been sprouted and growing. Today is their 3rd day under the light and 2 of our plants died yesterday.

Yeah we will get one, the ones I found were more expensive than that though so I'll have to look a little closer. I've got that soil kit and a water PH kit, both not being super precise, but I figured it would be ok for now. I know our water PH is high, we ordered some of the BioCanna PH down stuffs so I hope that will be good? I was worried the plants were getting too dry under the light so I was misting the top of the soil a bit like once a day, but I hadn't treated the water.

Just took a few pics of the 3 plants we have left. The first set of leaves on Yuna and Yuffi are almost totally yellow/white and dried up. The newer leaves on top of those seem to have really taken off in the last day in response to the nutes. They do look like they are possibly starting to yellow at the very tips, I want to get them healthy!
Mary Jane does not look bad.. it seems like her larger leaves are paling, but maybe I'm being a bit paranoid on that, I suppose they are gonna get a bit lighter when they get bigger. I just want to make sure she isn't going to start looking like the others!

Angels alive!! Haha, she was wilted over like 180 degrees but we took her out of the light and onto the window ledge with a little nutes and water and she's stood right back up. Dunno if she will get any better and she is probably more of an Angelou now, if she grows il watch for nuts! Haha

when you mist do youy get water on the leaves ? as this magnifies the light an burns the leaves realy bad an fast as for nutrients there still a bit young for now id wait a few more weeks but i still think its the light being too close

hi katt. told ya Id stop by....sorry about the woes of early stages of growing. i found soil and compost/manure mix to always be a safe bet...its never to late to transfer plants to a plain soil/manure mix (i go like 75 25) I have saved a few plants with ur exact symptoms.....i never had any light issues with hps either...so I dunno...but like I said from early on in my horticulture life i found soil/manure mix (75 25) to be like rain man at a black jack table...ya just dont lose in the end....keep at it Mr. and Mrs.

I've just taken a look and the last 3 plants are looking a lot healthier, they have grown quite a bit since we thought they wer done for. Angel is still on the windowsill and standing straight up, no sign of any new growth, might wack her under the hps again tonight and see what happens.

Also I'm thinking of repotting, I'm using a vermiculite/perlite/compost mix and I'm thinking it might be draining too much maybe?

No, I only spray the soil. I know that the lil water droplets can work like magnifying glass so I avoid that. It's just that the soil seems to get really dry fast so I just feel like I have to moisten it a bit. I didn't plan on doing the nutes yet, I was just worried when they started yellowing so I wanted to give them a little boost. I'm probably only going to give them water for a bit longer, but Mary Jane is probably old enough for them, I'm just gonna keep an eye on her and see what I think the next water. I'm going to look more into the light thing, I suppose it wouldn't hurt them to have it up a bit at least while we are waiting to get the fan working

Hey there :) We're gonna do a bit different of a mix when we up the pot size, I don't think we'll cut out the other stuff totally, but probably have less vermiculite along with blood/bean meal and some lime. I'm kind of leaning towards the PH just being too high, but we've just got in some Canna PHdown so hopefully that will make them feel better :D
