Mold or Fungus on Coco Surface

I started seeing some mold form on the surface of my coco... it doesn't seem to be on the leaves...although some of the most bottom small leaves have wilted and fallen because they get no light (my canopy is REALLY thick and the inside of it gets a reduced amount of light...) i think the dead fallen leaves fell on to the top of the coco and caused mold... it's the third week of flowering and the buds still look healthy.... how do i get rid of the mold (or is it fungus? same thing? it looks like fuzzy grey and it looks like it is only on the surface...) i am using a non circulating/drain to waste hyrdroponic drip system... 1000watt hps, ventilation is decent ( i think the ventilation is great on the top of the canopy, but not so great on the sides and bottom of the plants due to the shape of the grow room...)...The buds that are forming look great, i have 9 almost 11 fingered leaves...everything looks healthy except for some of the very bottom leaves deep inside below the canopy where there is no light are wilting and falling...also did notice some fungus gnats flying around...not too many tho... HOW DO I GET RID OF THE FUNGUS!!! AND IS THERE A PREVENTATIVE MEASURE I CAN TAKE TO NOT GET IT? Thank you so much to anyone that can help me!!

It sounds like the coco is staying pretty wet eh? IF so then I'd experiment with watering less frequently and see how far your plants can go before they start to wilt. Water them really well then wait and watch. It might take a day it might take several days but eventually the plant will start to droop a bit. I subtract a day and that's how often I water for a while. By letting things dry a bit more you let air back into the top of the roots (the root crown) which is a good thing. I might also suggest switching to hydroton (expanded clay) it dries out a little quicker and allows more frequent waterings. The coco in my experience is a real sponge and wet = fungus eventually,...gnats too. Good Luck! Happy Gardening! GrowIT!:weed:

I'm resurrecting this thread to post my coco mold pics,

I am thinking of making a few gallons of 29% h202 + water and wetting the tops of the 32 pots at 5ml per gal. Think this will suffice?

I tried 1 part skim milk, 10 parts water, but it didn't seem to take care of the mildew. Today I hit em with hydrogen peroxide 27% 3ml per gal in 3 gal of water and top soaked em. Hopefully it'll fix it.
