MiracleGro

anyone can be cool; awesome takes practice..like growing good weed.
Idk... My plant is smelling up my entire room and the buds are growing at an insane rate. She may not be the best, but I know it's going to taste better than anything else I can get for 60 an eighth so I'm not concerned, and I'm using MG... I wonder how that happened.

Pretty sure all I said was I don't understand the prob with mg, and I as a man in my prime was referred to somebody as boy. A total sign of disrespect. I'm thinking disrespecting people for asking questions isn't really contributing to the site, but is actually a deterrent for its growth. Common sense reasoning here...
Unless you are talking to a girl, bonehead boy. It has nothing to do with age this boy and girl thing.

I prob shouldn't be putting my super-ultra noob 2 cents worth in here, but I will tell you that even opening and smelling MG fert will give me a headache (not sure if I'm sensitive to it or what). Personally I wouldn't put it on anything intended for consumption, vegetables or otherwise

Oh, yeah? Take a good wiff of Sea Grow or Max Sea, or Dr Earth's. Get a good deep smell, so you will projectile vomit.

Smell, my word. :) You go by smell?

For those that still just totally are intent on using maricle grow soil with added fertilizer. MG soil is a lot like hydro. The more you water the more you feed. You can get hygro meters cheap at Lowes that you can stick in the pot of soil. Put one in each plantpot. Then you'll have a better idea on when to water them and how much.

What does totally intent on, even mean? You mean if there is some dullard left out there, that just has to ignore you. :)

It is a fine plant food. You use it for constant feeding in the water, or for periodic feeding between watering. I use it everywhere outside. I use kelp based, one part powder, which is just like MG, but organic indoors. The smell is slightly better, I agree. It is the same thing, really.

And I go back to this. Can a person grow something? It is easy. That is, unless you start listening to all the ganja Myths about mixing and switching around the nute like a mad scientist. That was my mistake.

At first we like to tinker and learn and sell talk what we learn to know it better. Fine. But at a certain point we need results.

So, to me this thread is about, "if I have MG already, do I need to figure out all these multi-part nutes special?" NO.

Use the Miracle Grow and get growing. If you can grow, then you can experiment.

And how many people here have tried a wide set these nutes, besides me? All the ones I talk to will attempt to make their lives simple to have the result be consistent.

But, they all usually have to flounder around, like me, to get the need for more simple.

Quoted for truth. Couldn't have said it better myself. If you have an aversion to MG, you don't understand nutrients.

Because someone agreed with you you give them rep. That's exactly what's wrong with this site.
I know this post is old - but I like your style dude. I am seeing quite a few weed growing Nazis on this site - I hate it when people say if you don't do it this way then you're doing it wrong. I'm with you, it's a fucking weed which is why we call it weed. ATM, I'm growing in MG All Purpose and the only nutes I have given my fairly virile HBD are a little Tesco Tomato Feed, a miniscule amount of Vitax Orchid Bloom Feed. I might buy some seaweed or sulphur fertiliser sometime, but I do believe that all these cannabis oriented fertilisers are little more than marketing hype. It's like you said, it's more about being in tune with your plant than spending tons of cash and fancy nutes and overusing them anyway. Every other day or so (cause let's not be too religious about our schedules - keep your girl on her toes - she likes the occasional pleasant surprise - lol) during flower, I am giving my plants cold banana tea. (a banana skin steeped in boiling water until cool) May I'm just being superstitious, but they haven't complained yet.

Also, I am trying to save money buy growing my own. Do you ever get the feeling that if you were to do the math(s) on some of the grows related on this site, with all they are spending,it would seem that sometimes their dope is not as cheap as it might seem.

People probably shouldn't get so anal about dope growing - but if that's the way they prefer to approach it, then who am I criticise? Live and let live is my motto.

I've used the exact stuff you're talking about from start to finish.
Like everyone else stated pay attention to your soil. Try and find something mild.
A few people said less is more. That's pretty much gospel when it comes to any nutes.
Now here's my method. I don't do clones. I only start from seed. I also start in a completely neutral soil. One that's completely void of nutes. I don't even touch em til they hit between 4-6 nodes. Right around then (for me) the cotyledons start shriveling up, deflate and die. I use that to tell me when to start giving nutes.
Now inside that little box you'll have a double sided scoop. One end is a half teaspoon (the small end) and 1.5 tablespoons (The big end) That's what gets a lot of people. For some reason they miss that little part in the instructions that says the big scoop in is for a 1.5 gallon "typical watering container".
Some people. Typically ones that have little to no experience cooking or baking. Probably look at the big end and think oh man a tablespoon cool! I got this. Fucking Ace! Then toss that whole thing in a gallon of water and end up toasting their plants. Then they come here and join the crusade because misread instructions. Then everyone else who got high and didn't spot the 1.5 tablespoon marking on the inside of the scoop (it's there just REALLY hard to see) who also toasted their plants will chime in that MG killed their plants, dog, World of Warcraft character. Wrecked the economy etc. So in short big scoop = bad.
So either use a tablespoon you have handy or buy one. You can find the little plastic ones for cooking @ any Walmart or even Dollar General.
Now there's instructions for indoor and outdoor plants. For indoor plants it calls for a half teaspoon (the little scoop) per gallon of water. There's where you'll want to start but at a half dose. Or maybe even 1/4 if you wanna play it super safe. I feel confident starting at a half dose. The next feeding (in 7 days) I up it to 3/4 dose. Then the next feeding (7 more days) they're getting the full indoor dose. Now you can stop there or ramp it up even further. Depending on your plant size. Veg time and whatnot.
I've ramped it up on outdoor plants to the full strength dose gradually (one tablespoon/gallon) and tossed a gallon of the mix per plant in 5-7 gallon containers. I did it once a week faithfully. No problems at all.
And before anyone starts flaming and frothing at the mouth yes I've purchased and used cannabis specific nutes before. I've went to a growshop and spent a gorrillion dollars and had shelves full of bloom boosters, bud candies, powdered tiger testicles, frog farts, composted shaman space dung, and unicorn piss. I've used them indoor and out. Just like I've used MG indoor and out.
Inb4 black ash and all that nonsense and "it'll taste like you're smoking a battery"
Smoking MG grown buds hasn't given me rat AIDS yet. Nor have I tasted batteries. I've personally stuffed at least 30 girls grown from start to finish with MG into a pipe or paper and never seen "black ash" My buds haven't "crackled and sparked" My sperm count is the same according to the frisbee in the nightstand that used to be a towel. And the turtle in the aquarium hasn't grown to a teenager, started eating my pizza and practicing ninjitsu from aquarium hotboxing.
I believed the grow shop guy and other people as well when it came down to MG. You know what? They were wrong.
Yes you can use it. It'll work just fine. If I wanted to mix and measure everything on the planet to get the job done I'd cook meth. Not grow herb.
Just remember big scoop bad.
Now spend 10$ on nutes that'll last you the whole season and not a gorrilion$. Also look at all those other goodies besides NPK on the box. Use the $ you save to buy a PH Tester and a scope to look at tricomes.
LOL dude. Sorry about the world of Warcraft guy. ROFL! Totally agree though. Pretty much it doesn't matter which nute or fert I use i always start small and work up. I wonder if MG would work hempy style? Probably not a good idea, but would love to know if anyone's tried it. I got a ton of that stuff left over in the garage and it's so cheap.

On a site like this we get to interact with all kinds of people and be glad as hell we don't interact with any of these people for real. :)

Too true. I love all people, but I don't necessarily want the fuckers round for tea and biscuits. We are all THC brothers and sisters, essentially good people but all capable of being pompous dicks occasionally (myself more than most). To err is human.

I just like to amuse myself. Bc I get spent from the same questions. Nobody wants to read anymore. Ya'll know what I'm talkin about...anyway...
MG is basically blue Nitroform with P and K added...its also chock full of micronutes. The small stuff plants need in miniscule amounts so basically its got everything Cannabis needs. However...even on the box it says to use at the half rate indoors...nobody ever reads this and thus they burn the shit out of their plants.

MG soil is basically the same as any other...its a peat/perlite base with organic matter (N) thrown in to make it more fertile.
Some MG soil products have fertilizer already in them. They aren't for growing Cannabis.
The reason is young Cannabis plants are prone to burn and need to be fed small amounts of nutes. Hydro store nutes are notorious for burning young Cannabis plants.
They are industrial strength and should be used at a diluted rate.

I hope this clarifies grower's questions about MG. I could get into much more detail but this thread isn't the place....
edit: google Miracle Grow ingredients if you want a comprehensive list of what's in it.

MG doesn't have enough Cal-Mag or Silica, I found. Other than that, ditto about burning seedlings and clones.
They do quite well on plain water if it is not too hard, under 200ppm.

I have grown the most expensive pot ever, I think. Approx $10K for absolute failure. Those were the days when I believed all the BS on RIU, and before I found Uncle Ben, and before Uncle Buck tossed me the clue about Sea Grow, etc.

edit: MG Ingredients :

There probably are better soils I could use, but I am using the MG soil that claims to feed for three months. I've done 2 grows in it now with no signs of burning. My Himalaya Blue Diesel grew like a triffid and is one of the strongest healthiest plants I've seen in the flesh. I have a Northern Light Auto from Speed Seeds which is two weeks old. This has been a slow starter and is only 2 inches tall with 4 sets of fans so far, but it seems to be picking up speed exponentially every day which is what you would expect anyway. I reckon it'll be 6 inches in another week.

- Ssshh - Nobody has yet told my HBD that she's deficient in Cal-Mag or Silica and I'm worried she'll start acting up if she gets to hear about it - power of suggestion and all that. Also, I live in an extremely hard water area and my plants don't seem to mind that either. At the end of the day, I stand by my belief that most cannabis strains are hardy little bastards that strive to thrive, whatever you throw at them, (especially mongrels) thrive in all sorts of conditions and climates as long as it's not too hot or too cold. I know nothing about cal-mag or sillica supplements, but the hard water I use I am sure has these trace elements in sufficient quantities for my plants, so maybe hard water is not so bad for cannabis?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_water

Sorry but ppm is not part of my growing vocabulary - I mean how are you realistically going to measure how many parts per million anything has without a laboratory at your disposal? Too nerdy for my growing style - but as I said before, each to his own and it's probably wise not to be too dogmatic or espouse one's opinions as doctrine.
