I agree with most of the posts here.
I also used MG nutes for quite some time.
I used the MG Bloom Booster also and had great results.
I later found another salt based powder called Jack's Classic. It is made by JR Peters Corp. and is a lot like MG except has a few more trace minerals and elements in it.
They make a 10-10-10 and a 10-30-20 for blooming.
1/2 tsp per gal and I never had to add Magnesium or suffered any other deficiency.
I have not used it in six months or so, but if I lived in an area where discretion or availability of nutes was a problem, I would use it again.
As far as the MG soil, it is hard to read. Some of the MG mixes have small time release beads or other slow release fertilizers.
I would say if using the MG soil mixes, then don't feed anything until 12/12 or the plant tells you it's hungry.
I grow in peat and perlite, so my medium has no nutritional value.
I used to buy Promix 4, then I realized I could make my own and now I just buy a bail of peat and a bag of perlite and mix, 65%/35%.
Like many posters have said, Scotts fertilizer co has been around over 80 years.
Cannabis specific nutes are a marketing ploy.
If cannabis was so particular, then why are there so many different NPK values on all the different bottles of cannabis nutes?
Find what works for you, based on your own growing experience, knowledge etc., not on the bottle with the awesome graphics.

I am currently using "Age Old Organics" line.
You can buy a 1 gal jug for $40.00. It is just like Fox Farms except about 20x stronger.
The veg formula is NPK 12-6-6 and the Bloom is 5-10-5.
It only takes 1tsp. per gal to achieve the same NPK as many of those pretty bottles that would require 2-3 oz of their diluted product.
The only difference is the label isn't pretty. It doesn't have a bud with a Mohawk, or a smiling pot plant or MJ leaf anywhere on it.
It is an industrial jug of dark brown concentrate and it rocks!

I hate grow shops and all they stand for. They exist to prey on the gullible.
Just like those kitchen gadget/boutique shops.
You can buy an ergonomic grip vegetable peeler, with an inverted handle, but my carrots taste the same as yours and I used the same peeler my grandmother did.

well mr 119 posts or are you "just" a sock puppet?..if you ever GAVE OUT rep you'd know that you can only do so periodically..which means..FAIL.

noobs come here looking for advice..there are a million ways to grow weed..they can pick and choose which members opinion they believe to be more "expert"

perhaps, you'd like to log back on with your regular account because personally i can't imagine anyone taking the advice of someone with 119 posts and 0 journal:lol:
I'm new to both this site and growing weed but I'm defiantly not new to the Internet or forums and if there is one thing I've learned it's to never judge someone's skill level by there forum account.

A much more advanced grower in my eyes would keep his illegal activity on the down low as much as possible.

People on this site give out ALOT more info than they should. Some people don't realize if someone gets ahold of your IP address they will have a pretty good start at finding your grow room.

I was wondering if Miraclgro tomato plant food does any good?

N 18-P 18-K 21
Of course. It will work as good or better than any of it, IME. I use straight 16-16-16, Sea Grow, for the entire time, all the way to Harvest.

A lot of these guys don't do the experiments. And a lot of these, including yours truly, fell for it. It, meaning the fancy nutes.

I have 3/4 bottles of all the fancy nutes. Yeah. Switching to bloom food? Not necessary, IMO. No organism likes switching to anything. We crave stability, so do dogs and so does ganja. If the food is there the plant can use it. Not there, it cannot.

No need to jack around the proportions. No need to lower the Nitrogen. All Lore and Myth.

So, these guys that want to re-gurg what they think they heard about the best feed, (I don't call it nutes anymore, its plant food) they don't really know. Never did tests.

And whoever was talking about illegal and dumber down techniques here on RIU, had it 1/2 right. Dumber down for sure, but because of lazy ego, fight boy tendencies, and the pathetic need to be right all the time...even when most stupidly wrong.

So, learn to listen to your plants.....get over killing a few, in the process. Make it simple and make sure you have built fail safe.

My IP address with give you nothing. And if you don't secure your location dealie on your camera, well....do that. If you are talking shots of your car tags and street address, don't do that.

And, please realize in some locations, like mine, what I am doing is not illegal, ill-advised, or illiberal. :)

And if you have told anyone at all. Go and immediately un-tell them. Tell them you were high and just bullshitting. Tell them you would be the last person to even considered something this difficult.

Tell them it was a dumb idea and you woke up. Then go grow and tell no one.

We just saw a guy busted in Ohio for not following that simple rule. Give a little pot here and there if you must, but never say where it came from.

You probably would not like jail. I didn't. :)

Well to answer the OPs question and affirm the other reasonable people's opinions here, yes you can use MG.

Someone was a sandwhich short of a picnic when they replied to this thread several times... still no word from the sandwhich.

That is funny. Have checked the creds? Have looked to see if there is any growing being shown from this Dude?

Sorry, Sky, I could not resist. :)

And how do you know which direction to "swing your ill-pecker?" You have some grown ganja we can look at?

You are gonna call me an expert? I think Sky has more success than me.

Miracle-Gro is also owned by Scotts, which is a HUGE supporter of Monsanto. Miracle-Gro is mass produced, made with inferior ingredients that are cheap and destructive to the environment. Scotts has been found guilty many times in US Ferderal Court of purposely mislabeling products with carcinogens and using products that are lethal to wildlife and humans.

So with all of the choices out there, why even have Miracle-Gro in the discussion, especially for something that you are going to consume.

BS. Devil Worship. Get over it. Monsanto is not the devil. That is just more evil Saganism to me.

I've looked into Jack's Classic and their Bloom formula you mentioned. I may actually pick both up and give it a go. The 25lb bags look appealing in amazon. That's a loootttt of fertilizer though lol.

That is a lot of fertilizer. That's what I use on my lawn and it takes 2 years.

I have 4 separate feedings going on at once, each day, 2 plants each feed strength And I use the same stuff in different strengths through out.

A, one pound jar of the Sea Grow, kelp stuff, I use lasts beyond imagination. It is only 1 tablespoon or so, for 4 gals @ 400 ppm.

I just reduce that with water for the other feedings.

BTW, some may think Monsanto/Scott = Bad and Advance Nutrition or Dutch Masters = Good.

Why do you say that? You have no idea of the background of these companies. They could gun runners or Cayman Banking interests or Saudi. You don't know.

At least Monsanto is a public company paying good dividends and I am a stock holder.

And I am not an evil Saganist any more, though I was, and somewhat worse than that. :)

Why not take a wet paper bag and see it you can punch yourself out?

You are talking shit. Many chemical companies have faced lawsuits of one kind or another, does that mean this specific product doesnt work? No

And the only reason to be pissed or concerned about Monsanto is because they are patent trolls, who get preferential treatment under the law in terms of exemptions in the event shit hits the fan.

take off the tin foil hat and educate yourself on plant nutrients. Where the source comes from doesnt matter, what matters is that it is there.

God, you really should be freaked out by what produce companies use to keep fruit and veggies consumable. /sarcasm at your ignorance of science

So if you follow the MG mixing instructions, what sort of ppm does your nutrient solution have?

This is a good question, but as a guy I have never read any instructions, nor have I ever asked for directions, I think I know everything, etc....right, Sky? :)

OK. The PPM has only to do with the size of the plant. Simple.

So, as I have experienced, babies can't eat steak, can they? Sure they can. They can have a tiny amount of pureed steak if that is your thing...not new born infants, of course.

So, all plants need most things food for them and all plants have little goodies that they like. But, the question is not the best this or that, it is can you grow at all. Just ask me...no need, I just said, from real experience.

So, with anything including Miracle Grow, I glance at what they say, measure that up into exact volume. I use 10 liters. Then I measure it. Maybe it is 350 or 450 ppm, doesn't matter. Will you just throw that on a clone? Or are you smarter than me? :)

See what I mean? Clones I give 70-100 ppm according to strain, then I go to 200, then 300, then 350, 400, 450, 400, 200 and then flush.

But, if the plant never got the mass for what ever reason, like I screwed the root pooch, um...I can't just follow a formula, even my own.

If you have never nute locked a plant on purpose, (or accidentally) you won't know what that presents with.

Or, like my brain surgeon friend said, "It takes a year to learn what correct looks like, it takes another 8 years to learn how to see what is going wrong and fix it in time."

I once used up(almost) a green bucket of mg ferts for bloomin' flowers for $5.00 Canadian. I cut it to 1/6th per gallon(of water) as it recommended per gallon for soil. Worked ok for flood and drain.

Maracle grow fertilizer:DO NOT USE AS DIRECTED!! And don't use it with pre-fertilized soil mediums until it is obvious that the plants are hungry. $40 worth of hydroton is enough to do a small table and have enough left for a couple moms. Lava rock grow pellets are even cheaper. Soil makes no sense to me personally.

I feed everything in the greenroom with the spent res water from the budders, then drain to waste, over the berry patches:)
