micro DWC

hey guys check out the DWC system i just put together.

there is a tiny bit less than a gallon in it. there are 2 6 inch airstones with an airpump rated for 30 gal aquariums. i used 3 inch net pots.

these are my first clones ever! i know its a bit early for the hydroton but i had to get em outa the container they were in.

for the nutes i am using the GH flora series. i premixed it in a gallon jug using 1/4 teaspoon of flora micro, flora grow, and flora bloom

i filled the container up so 1/4 of the net pots are under water. it took a little bit less than a gallon.

i forgot to check the PH and PPM before i put the lid on but it should be ok. my tap water comes out at 6.0 and 100ppm
i'll take a pic with the lid off next time i open her up

what do you guys think?

You are just rooting clones not trying to grow them to maturity right? That may not be enough rootspace for 3 plants. But the concept is correct and on a larger scale it will work as well as anything out there.

thanks guys, yes i might be bringing them to maturity in it, or i will use a little bigger container. whats wrong with the foil? theres only about 50 watts on it now, and its keeping the light out.

heres what i am hoping to do. or i might use them for mothers

here's a flashback from my first indoor grow...

Same nutes as I am using now...

here are a few more shots of my Bonsai garden...

...and now for some size reference...

The whole tray is 12" x 18"...

Biggest plant, today, measures 6" tall by 13" wide...

.. and here is the bic lighter...

:leaf: ...a few more just for good measure... lol...:weed:

:eyesmoke:

..and here is where it all started...

First day at home...

no, but tin foil reflects MUCH MUCH MORE heat than it does light...in my opinion it's utterly useless. it also has a tendency to direct whatever light it can muster into one tight spot, these are called hotspots. tin foil is extremely inefficient and, when married with certain precise conditions, can actually be dangerous.

Pretty sweet. Good lookin budshots too. I tinkered with a small dwc once (4 3" netpots/2 gal res). I liked the fact that a frozen water bottle would maintain res temp for a day+ and that it used minimal water/nutes. The only thing i disliked was the fact that they would drink the nute solution down to almost nothing in a few days. Overall I thought it was alot of fun and took up very little space. I also found that a 5 dollar thermal shirt wrapped around the res both blocked light and helped maintain water temp. Just to throw that up in the air. Again, nice job and best of luck on the micro dro grow.

just an update.

i have some nice roots growing on the 2 outside plants but nothing in the middle plant.

i have to adjust the ph about twice a day, 1 if i'm lucky

It'e not the foil that changes your pH. You only have 1 gal of water so your pH will vary lots anyway. It naturally varies as plants consume nutes and expel waste. It's worse with bottled/ro water as it has no buffers. The GH Flora series does have buffers, but you'll stll be fighting pH the entire grow due to the small reservoir. Just try to keep in in the 5.5-6.5 range and it'll be fine. Don't chase the pH. It's very bad for your plants. All that being said, you'd be better off using that AeroGarden200 (?) I see in your bottom pix. It has EVERYTHING, except additional lights, that you need for a few small plants.
When the roots hit water, you want to lower your water level to at least 1/2-1" below the net pots or it will kill them quickly. They need that air space to grow.

Lookin' good so far, man! That foil will get you by for now. I haven't seen any conclusive evidence of it causing damage to plants using low watt florescent lighting. The only thread on this forum I've seen that actually cataloged plant damage due to tin foil, also used HID lighting.

*if I'm wrong please show me*

Happy growing!
