Michigan, the state

Hello, I was recently looking for a home in Northern Michigan and am surprised at how affordable the real estate is compared to even neighboring states. What am I missing? Are there no jobs? Is the rain too much? Is it humidity? Bigfoot? Would love some input from folks that actually live there, please.

Detroit is a long story most either do not understand or care to talk about :( Think of it like lead poisoning with a bright red line pointing directly to Washington DC ;)

I know Detroit is badly broken, but what about the Northern part of the state? The entire state cannot be judged by a couple of cities, or can it?

Our state's economy was built primarily on the manufacturing and was once the backbone of this country. Decades of politicians, corporations and unions "sharing the wealth", "negotiating" and "trading" our manufacturing jobs for service sectors jobs elsewhere in this country have literally decimated our major cities leaving them unsustainable without a foreseeable future. The northern part of our state is pretty rural and often recreational based, but has suffered loses with the state as a whole as residents are forced to flee elsewhere in search of employment and subsistence :( Michigan is still a nice place to live if a job is not important to you ;)

I live in the northern lower. If you can put up with extreme cold at times and extreme heat other times and everything in-between. The weather changes very quickly around here. If you don't like snow for 5-6 months out of the year N.MI might not be for you. As for the jobs situation you better have a skilled trade to your name if you want to make a decent living up here. Jobs up here typically pay 2-3$ per hour less on average. I am a skilled worker in my trade and I make $5 an hour less than people down state, and I am one of very few in n.mi that are masters of the trade. Everything is 10,20,30 mile drive one way it ain't like the city's where you drive 10 miles and go through 5 different towns.

As someone who moved here roughly 2 yrs ago from a state who is doing much better (Missouri) I can tell you that the only reason I have been able to see is jobs. I lived in St.Louis, MO most my life and can tell you that the crime is just as bad as it is around here. A lot of people have moved out of Michigan looking for jobs and it has caused a huge surplus of housing. I live in Lansing and can tell you the house I got here would have cost a $100,000 more in St.Louis. Now to me I see this as an opportunity because rent prices are still fairly high compared to housing prices. For instance my house could be a 2 family and I am pretty sure I could get $600 per unit, In St. Louis I would probably only get max $800 per unit for a house that cost $100,000 more. I could easily buy 3-4 houses here for what I would pay for 1 in St.Louis. I also think in 10 yrs Michigan will be coming back as will housing prices.

I liked MI a lot more on Friday but, I am with Nick. Cheap houses, good med laws and it's a beautiful state overall.

No ice storm thread yet???

FYI friends this person is quite a troll in toke-n-talk. Don't waste your time with this dude.

We don't feed trolls.
Thanks for letting me know, friend.
This thread could have been a fairly interesting discussion on the merits and disadvantages of Northern Michigan but, now I know that the OP may not actually be certain about going there, the entire thread has become a hollow and pointless endeavour.

You don't feed trolls.....?
Do you accept blowjobs from transvestites...?

Only from you sweet tits.

This dude spent days on end making threads about having sex with a married man, and how his wife came over and assaulted him, and now he's planning on making a new family with their children.

He's a troll, just like you, a person from another country talking shit in a US State specific forum.

And who are you again? Oh, never mind, I really hate feeding trolls. Damn.

Please enjoy tonights entertainment from the OP.

Days on end? Quote that, please. How did you decide I am from another country? Quote that, please. My maid DID steal my dildo! It's not a troll.

Does everyone know you are a LEO?

I am not trolling the states sections. I am looking at places around Gaylord. Either help, or don't, but don't make shit up. I see some great places around Cheboygan, but it looks very cold and desolate. Gaylord seems it is just large enough to support some kind of rural living.

Please, go on with what can be a very interesting discussion about the state's Northern country. Is there much wildlife like moose, elk, deer? Do most people hunt for their meat?
