"MG will kill your plants"... "MG works great for me"... WTF, Mate?

I use MG too but the Organic. My plants are fine but I had to add so much to the soil also. Plain old MG is garbage but like stated b4, if you know what your doing with MG it will do fine. Personally if you can afford it, Id get better soil though.

I haven't tried the organic (yet) but I've been using the regular (blue) stuff with good success. I use it @ 1tbsp/gal to help new plants veg up quickly and to help the mums recuperate after cloning.
It's just molasses and water during flowering so there's none of it left in the plant at harvest.

The sh*t WILL burn your plants - mine start to show it at 1.5 tbsp/gal (the big side of the scoop). When I say 'gallon' I'm referring to my watering can so the volume may be a little more than a gallon...

I make up my own soil from peat moss and pearlite so I can't speak to the MG soil...but I've read volumes on here about the gnat issue.

this is a great thread...ive got a question and maybe you guys can give me some input....Im going to flower my plants (first time grower) in about 6 days i think. I have 2 plants both are in FFOF. I just transplanted 1 of them into its final home, the other one was already there. BUT i transplanted it from FF ocean forest into MG organic. SO my question is...what do i do about nutes? can i add flower nutes to the veg nutes im already using? at the same time? then when i change the light cycle just do flower nutes? and should i just let the one in the MG soil go without nutes for about a month? depending on waterings of course....basically ive never flowered anything before, so im kinda lost on switching the nutes..sorry if this doesnt make sense guys, im pretty high..thanks

I could be wrong, but I think that MG Organic soil is pretty damn potent. I'd just check the nute levels on the back of the bag...

first grow i did was in miracle grow organic potting mix, got some clones from a buddy that were already rooted and they grew fine and produced fine although there was some major nutrient burn going on by week 4 or 5 (maybe two weeks into flowering).

i had about a 75% success rate on clones but they took much longer to root and i had way better results once i switched to a good coco-based soil, that could've been due to the powder cloning hormone i was using thought (now using clonex gel)

the stuff kills seedlings, germinated seeds would die in it almost right away compared to having no problems with alternaqtives. start your seeds/clones in something else if you're going to use MG.

Ya in general, If you are doing this legally, go to a grow store and get some good nutes for a small bit more. If not, well then anything you get is a risk. Personally i try and stay away from big labels, and MG in general is too harsh for these delicate plants. Anything is small doses tho i guess..

Basically, if i can use llama and bat shit, than you can use most shit in a bottle, difficulty and enjoyment of experience is up to you.

Professionally speaking, there are so many products specifically for this, why use one thats not...

So... unless you're growing legally, don't buy decent nutes? WTF kind of advice is that? Go to a nursery and buy some Fox Farms or Dr. Earth. Maybe I misunderstood what you posted, but it sure does sound like you're giving some silly advice.

Ya i was really high on some oil didnt come out right-my bad...If he's lazy and doesn't want to through extremes of taking a cab to the grow store and use cash (I did it till i got legal-stayed out of trouble and grew lots of flowers :)) than he has a much higher risk getting caught with a suspicious grow list showing up from a grow store on his CC bill than he would with some trips to home depot and MG, buckets, 2x4s etc.

But i didnt think about nurseries- I just like to hide everything about what I'm doing. Even now that im legal im still paranoid of Fed's

Basically my point was, you can use what you like, but you get what you pay for. Some products are more user friendly, but its all in the effort you want to put in. I prefer to shovel shit and make teas personally-but bottled nutes dont make you smell like ass-literally

NEVER SACRIFICE QUALITY NUTES, WATER, LIGHT, OR SOIL IMO, but ive seen people do crazy things and get good results, so Im more than happy with someone else being the guinea pig and letting us know how it worked :)

Happy growing :)

I'm using miracle grow organic right now. From what I can tell they are doing just fine. Slight color difference of lower leaves(slighttt) and that's about it. When I first started I flushed the soil with a peroxide mix to kill any bad stuff in it(those bags are outside getting mold and shit)

Yeah NewClosetJournal's got a whole journal devoted to MG vs FF. MG thus far is apparently beating out FF buuuuuuutt it's too early to tell what's going on.. sweet thread tho... I use MG and it works fine.

No burns, no anything. I don't really understand why a lot of people attack it like they have something to prove. It definitely works, there is no doubt about it. People fail any type of grow, FF or MG.. or any type of soil..

The percentage of failures is probably skewed toward those people who use MG because they tend to be amateur or novice growers. Just starting out. "I just bought CFLS from Home Depot and now I'm going to buy some Fox Farms Ocean Haven with ORganic Bat Guano and Alaskan Bird Shit 1-230-1231=4" People don't say that, they go and buy a fluorescent and a bag of miracle grow and see what happens

The truth is, if you cant grow weed in MG, then your probably a shitty grower, or it's your first (or second time using it and you don't fucking learn) using it. No dont plant seeds, or seedlings with baby roots in pure MG.

I've been poor my whole life. I never was able to afford FF soil, or even fancy Nursery soil and amendments, but I could afford MG.

After many mistakes and pitiful harvest, I got a great learning experience from it. One thing I learned is my problems weren't from MG, it was me.

This you have to concider when using MG:
-Don't, Don't, Don't, Don't, Don't, Don't ------ Don't give your plants extra vegetative fertilizer for at least three weeks, or until your plant show signs of nut def.
-The shit is "hot." Lotta inert nutrients from the start so you cant start from seed in MG unless it's the MG seedling starter stuff.
-You MUST MUST MUST (should...) amend MG with perlite. You cant really put too much perlite in MG but generally I stick to a 2:1 ratio soil to perlite.
-MG is easy to over water
-MG IS great for outdoors
-Only water with R/O water, or any water with less than 30 ppm.....but use R/O water
-Oh yeah, DON'T GIVE THEM FERTILIZER FOR AT LEAST THREE WEEKS!
-You need a pH meter anyways, but if your gonna use MG, you'll need one evn more.
It's stupid to say that MG is for newbs, because generally newbs will make more mistakes using MG if they don't do their due diligence.

MG fertilizer I have never used. The bottle you showed didn't give the N-P-K value of it, but I'm guessing it's high. Veg state fertilizers usually have somewhere closer to 5-1-3 ish, so if that MG fert is much more than that I'd dilute.

My only problem with using miracle grow fertilizers is that their formula is geared to make things easy for little old ladies to feed their little violets and rose bushed. Most directions say to feed once or twice every few months so it's not really geared for cannabis per se. Be careful if you decide to go that route. Good luck stoner.:leaf:

Say what you want about it but the truth lies in the side by side test which is right in my signature.

i started my seeds in FFOF and they got burnt and stunted very badly...dont get me wrong i know that MG would have done the same but after using nothing but MG nutes in both soils and now using MG organic potting mix...im a firm believer in MG once you get some experience behind you!!
