MechaTronix: MODULED 9950-B LED Star heatsink for 3590?

Here is a pic of two of the cxa3590s running on passive heat sink all day long. They are cool to the touch at 25W warm to the touch at 50W. work real nice in an open area, but fan needed in an enclosed area like a tent. peace. enjoy your build.

CITILED COB Series Version 5: CLU048-1212C4-40AL7K3 for $12.50 USD each to try on these heatsinks. Gonna make some individual, single COB units using
MODULED XTRA 9980-B and meanwell LPC-60-1400 to drive them at 1.4A for my friends to try. Gonna drill the top side of the sink and add an eye bolt to allow the units to hang and mabye use PVC pipe to enclose the sink, to help direct the light downward.

Good job, should be a great combo. Might run a tiny bit warm, but who cares.

As far as I'm concerned that combo is the best bang for the buck in existence right now.

Will end up costing me 12.5 cob + 9.5 sink + 14.70 driver plus a couple bucks for wire, etc. Driver I got is only rated to be 85%, cant expect too much I guess for the low price point.

if you are ordering from cdiweb, I think you want the 9980-C for the citizen (in terms of product they have in stock) the xtra 9980-b is pre-drilled for cree according to the notes.

I was trying to find holders for them, but the ones recommended in the heatsink product info for those are hard to find. Says to use zhaga book 3 but heck if I can find them anywhere. I know the ones I ordered are modified to allow the use of cree cobs, but I think all the original holes are also in them, it looks like it according to the product picture. Also they are slightly heavier than the non 'xtra' modules so hopefully it will work, I have my fingers crossed at least.

I use the Chip-Lok solderless system. The CDI-Web HS come pre-drilled. easy. It takes a minute to findthe right pair. I had to safety wire my reflector holdersas tehre was only air where I needed a screw hole. lol. peace.

Those will work with the 9980 Xtra?

Well I did some measuring and if the picture in the product manual is correct, they SHOULD. I also emailed mechatronix to confirm, but havent heard from them about it yet. There are so many holes on these heatsinks, should be able to make it work for just about anything. I know for sure direct mount will work cuz I did some measuring as you can see in the picture below. There are holes that are exactly 1.27 inches apart, which is the distance between holes on the cobs I ordered. Hoping something will work with the ideal holders cuz I would rather use those, should be able to tho.

Funny they are in stock but no price is listed. I dont plan to use a reflector at all right now, why are these better? Thanks for the tip!

Actually it's because I got my Ideal holder and adapter and they just don't fit on the Xtra. You might get the holder to work if you file down the plastic locator nubs, but the reflector adaptor is just not happening. No holes.

I feel like CDI is having some growing pains, honestly. No idea why something is in stock but quote only.

OIC, I didnt think about the reflector adaptor needing to be screwed down. I guess since Im not planning to us a reflector right now, its not a big issue, other one does look nicer tho.
