I got the mechtronic heat sink yesterday and mounted the COB adapter, as well as a mounting tab. peace
so what are your thoughts now that you have it? looks like there will be some air pockets under the cob from the pic you posted.are you planningto fill those holes or use a silicon thermal pad or what?

I dont have a problem with it. I expect it will work just fine at 50w as it is appropriate mass to passively cool. $10/ea plus $3 s&h to easy. My 4 cob cxa does not even get warm at 50w or the driver. I get more heat from lumens than anything. I could probably run my cxa passively with no fan at 50w. Peace

I'd like To passively cool 4 72v CXB 3590 to 75 or 80 watts. There would be 2 per driver now, and 4 per driver once the 320s are released. If actively cooling would increase efficiency, id like to attach fans to the units.

Thanks @welight

Well 3590's 36v @ 700mA produces about 8.25w/cob of heat... Im guessing it would be fine, but I havent crunched the numbers.

Can I get the group's opinion on these for passive cooling CXB3590 @ 700ma.

Hi Will
today morning i asked them for one sample, i want to test it. As soon i got it, i will tell you how good it works. some days ago i did a order for a similar heatsinks from a other company (http://www.alutronic.de/produkte/powerblocs-stiftkuehlkoerper/powerblocs-square-cut/842/po98-98-40-al?c=1412) ,
this heatsink should work maybe even for 1050ma, but one black anodised cost 15,89 euro without tax. not really cheap, but if i would buy some more they make them cheaper and non black anodised cost even less

Cool,
lets work together on this. I am looking for 24 heatsinks to retro fit my existing fixtures.
Also on another thread you where trying to find Citizen COBs. I received a price for CLU048-1818 for £20.38. The rep will give a price for 1212 tomorrow and I will let you know. Do you know the price of the fischerelektronik heatsink? I have asked for a quote from them today.

Cheers,
Will

Just saw this. FWIW, I just put a (cheap) machinists square on my Mechatronix 9980, and see no daylight. So that is something.

These should cool as well as the kit heatsinks from welight, but aren't suitable for CXB3590s. They are hefty chunks of metal, but the contact area is too small. They'd be fine for the 3070s, maybe up to 1.4A @ 36V. Maybe!

Just to clarify, the 9980 is not the same as the LSB9980. That has oddly terrible thermal resistance for it's size.

same, i will let you know what price they tell me. i think tomorrow they will tell us the price
And maybe im good with citizen cobs, i made some telefon terror at citizen office here in germany. i called them every 2nd day and told them that i wanne buy some cobs, i told them here is no way to buy the cobs as privat person.
Today he send me an email and wrote in it, that he try to contact tme.eu .. He wanne tell tme.eu that im allowed to buy some cobs as privat person in germany. i will tell you if it works, i hope so:confused: . Tme.eu makes pretty fair price in compare to the other company(mouser, digigay) here in europa

the ICK S 98 x 98 x 45 needs active cooling
less than 15 Watt Heat for passive
Hello @guod, Thank you for dropping in. So how many heat watts does a CXB3590 @ 700ma produce? Is it like @thetr33man states 8.25w per COB? I am a simple man uneducated and scared of the magic they call "mathematics". When I see airplanes flying I still point at them in slack jawed amazement.

Cheers,

vw have you had time to run this heatsink with a cob on it yet? im curious how hot the edges of the cob get where they dont touch anything.

Hi Will,
today i got the offer(i asked for 12 * ICK S 98 x 98 x 45) from fischerelektronik for the ICK S 98 x 98 x 45. For 12 heatsinks they want 182.52euro(without taxes), so one heatsink 15,21euro. Thats expensive i think, i dont buy them anymore.
Like i said before in a post, i paid for this heatsink(http://www.alutronic.de/produkte/powerblocs-stiftkuehlkoerper/powerblocs-square-cut/842/po98-98-40-al?c=1412) 15,89 euro (black anodised) , and i bought only 3 of this heatsink.
1-2days max. and the heatsink will recieve my home, then i will tell you how good they work.

Cool, thanks for letting me know. I ordered 24 x pin heatsinks from China for $182 delivered to U.K. that is $7.58 (6.59 euro) per unit delivered.
Also I got a reply from U.K. supplier for Citizen COBS "we have 79 * CLU048-1212C4- 303H5k2 in stock at £8.23 each ex vat and delivery." That is 10.48 euro plus VAT and Delivery.

Cheers,
Will
