Matching Drivers and COBs

The HLG-60H-C350 can run (almost) 6 CXAs, but they will be a 350mA. If you laready have the CXAs and you want to run them 50Ew ea, you can put 3 of them on an HLG-185H-C1400. If you have not bought them yet, you can get CXB3070 or CXB3590 36V instead and run 4 of those at 50W ea on the HLG-185H-C1400
I just ordered the HLG-185H-C1400, I decided to just use 3 CXA3070 at the optimal settings !
Thank you for this information!

A small extra question, I'm looking for quite a large flat aluminum heatsink/body on which I'll mount the 3 cxa's and another panel of leds I have ready to be installed (driven by another driver, it is a 180watt SMDled full spectrum panel with 300 small SMD's with full spectrum of nm's) I'd like to combine them on 1 big rectangle/square aluminum plate where I can mount the drivers on the back. Does anyone know of online shops selling these kinds of big aluminum plates ?

In case anyone is wondering, the plate of smd's is something I recovered from a chinese import grow lamp. (it got completely destroyed by DHL shipping but I managed to salvage most of the led chips)

Thanks as always supraSPL...
Hlg-120-350b + 12 cxa...
Why cxa instead of cxb?
Why W2 bin? Is it the best bin in 5000ºk available?
Is there better bin in 5000ºk with cxb?
Is there just a problem of availability since I only need 12 atm?
I hope digikey have some...it would easier for me...
I believe kb have some but moq is 100 pieces...I should email Jerry to ask him if he do not have a few to sell? Maybe he can sell me 20?
What is the lowest price you saw for those?
Thanks CU
The example I posted was a clearance pricing deal. You are correct that a higher bin of CXB would be a superior COB, but not when you take cost matching into account and not at low dissipation levels like you need for your design. In other words, the clearance deal we can afford to run softer and therefore it ends up cheaper and better than a CXB at full price.

To make the point using an extreme example, you could run a CXA3590 5000K DB at 200mA (13.3W) and get 72% efficiency, but it would cost $3.60/PAR W, a completely different cost category.

Ok thank you very much for the precision!
I am going to check the difference in price between cxa W2 and cxb 2540 with a higher bin if I can source some...
Have a great day ★

So if I want to run 5 3070's on a hlg-180-c1050, I would be better off price wise going with the cxa instead of cxb? Because five of either will fit on one driver at max efficiency or close to it?

It's completely different category than these clearance prices, $20+.

Is there any other store beside Newark which offers such a low clearance prices?

If you can find CXA3070s at a clearance price that might be true. But if you can get high bin CXB3070s or CXB3590s for a fair price, it will likely be cheaper and better than the CXA3070.

Bonjour
So those price and chips are from newark...I will go check...but I am not sure it would be ok for EU residents!
And @alesh do you mean 20 $ more per chip...or for the 12chips?and where digikey?
Have a great day ★

:)[/ QUOTE/ Bonjour
like don benosee said TME.com have good hs at good price for EU growers
I bought mine something like 44€ including vat (+7.50€ shipping) for a 1000x165x35mm which is ok for 4 cxb 3590 @1400mA actively cooled by one 140mm fan @9V...
Have a great day★

Hello everyone,
I have been following all the threads for about a week now. I am sold on diy cobs. I have a couple questions for the gods of RIU but I wanted to introduce myself first. Thank you for all the valuable information and I am very happy to be in the presence of legends.

'Cleverer', as in becoming more and more clever. A 'cleaver' is a large heavy knife, what you might use to butcher meat with. I'm impressed with your grasp of English, merci beaucoup!

First question. PPFD from what I have been reading, is all that really matters in terms of light specs. Wattage, volts, and all the other measurements are used to find PPFD...correct?

to elaborate... if the light system works and the PPFD is in between 759-900 across the entire canopy... then the rest of the numbers become insignificant?

Perfect! LOL

I meant no disrespect, I fear it's a lingering influence from my parents, both of whom were English teachers at the local university at one point.
