I moved the Double Grapes out of the tent and inside. Now they are in a dark room with an AC running to finish up. We will see what happens! Depending on how they look tomorrow and the weather, I may give them 3 or 4 more days out in the sun. Im going away Monday, so that will be D-day. At that point they either need to be cut, or wait until Friday.

Took a few quick pictures outside. First time I've seen them under natural light. Haha

no shit? .. i honestly had no idea how they auto flowered. I always figured that some nerd just grew out a ton of plants and found the fastest blooming pheno, and kept cross breeding back to that... you'd think that I would have googled it at some point ... but I never really even gave auto's any consideration .. I always figured that's an indoor thing and I'm only really into outdoor

It's got me thinking about next year though .. in theory, I could keep my normal 8 going like now, but then drop 3 runs of 4 autos each for harvests on 7/1, 9/1, and 11/1 ... and always stay under my 12 plant limit

Yes! That's what I'm doing this season. Same exact plan. I am never going back. The first autos I harvested have been a huge hit with the people I gift it to. Supposedly it's some of their favorite bud ever. So the quality is there. I got 4 ounces of rock hard nugs off 2 plants earlier this summer. The one on the right is like 7 or 8 grams dry.

I have only started doing them this year, but I'm loving being able to see flowers all season. Instead of just waiting for the end of summer.

From what I've seen so far, they will definitely finish outside, but Ive been finishing them under a HLG 260 v2 r-spec in a 2x4 tent. The strains I have will totally work outside, but it would be tough for them to reach their maximum potential not having 24hrs of light and depending entirely on the sun.

With autos, it's almost like a speed run. Your time is so short to maximize yield, that any lost days can mean a serious hit to quality or quantity.

That being said, you CAN definitely do it all outdoors and kill it. You just need to select strains that are good for outdoors and are bred to be the largest plants possible.

Larger plant = longer life = more forgiving if you get a few cloudy days.

Trying to do a 60 day auto like the ones I showed earlier would be tough outside because they arent getting anything near the 24hrs of light they get in the tent.

Blackie that HLG you build it yourself or buy an already put together light model ? Been looking into the qb96 elite v2 by HLG, looks fierce for the money if you wans do DIY build.

Haha...yea. 24/0 is a popular option with autos that finish this early.

Most auto growers tend to do either 20/4 or 24/0. Or they mix it up at different stages.

My logic was that 20/4 is 17% less light than 24/0, and when you only have 60 days from seed to harvest, I'd rather have 17% more light then 17% sleep. Haha

For the HLG light I got the DIY. It's the way to go.

Before you buy anything HLG though, 1 thing to consider. I recently spoke to the owner at the grow shop in Hanover called "Perpetual Harvest". He seems to have a close personal relationship with Stephen, the owner of HLG, and he had some SMOKING prices on their lights. He said "before you order anything online, call me and get a price. I can usually beat them all. By a lot."

And, I believe he had the light you mentioned hanging up assembled ready to go with a very attractive price tag on it.

This is my 1st time growing outdoors so not sure what to expect, they are much larger than my indoor plants which last grow I had 50 grams from a plant topped once and 46 grams off a non-topped plant. One thing I'm excited for is a critical purple kush clone I have outside, last indoor grow it had started turning a dark purple and read that the colder weather may help it turn even more purple.

Very true. Typically the purple color is down to 2 factors. Genetics and environment. There are others of course but those seem to be the biggest things.

Genetics is an obvious cause, but as for environment, the chemicals that make the flowers turn purple can be turned up a notch if the lights out period during flower gets low enough. This is called "anthocyanin accumulation". Anthocyanin is what makes that purple color, just like chlorophyll makes green. And being cold during the dark periods of flower can create more of it in the plant.

Some say under 70 degrees at lights out will do it, some say 50. I believe it is a function of the genetics and the differential between light on and off temps.

So if lights on temps are around 80, lights off temps around 65 will give you more purple. If temps are around 70 with lights on, lights off under 50 will do it.

If my theory is correct, with your plants being outside, the swing from day to night tends could definitely give you WAY more purple then the controlled environment indoors.

And not just purple...there are strains that show reds, pinks, oranges, and even black! Pretty cool stuff.

I have. And I've asked that question many times. Ive heard everything from "pests" to "the plant sacrificing a branch that wasnt getting enough light or nutrition due to an internal issue" to "it's a response to stress" to "its probably physical damage you cant see".

I think all can be potentially true. The punch line is, in all the years of seeing that hapoen to plants outdoors, it's never had a negative effect on my harvest or the plants overall health. As long as it is truly isolated and it doesn't spread, I wouldn't worry about figuring out which one of the possible 8 answers is the right one.

I'd hit it with some "repair" style supplements, and feed and water like normal. And definitely monitor that plant closely for any other signs of trouble.

Thanks blackie was in braintree at the shop yesterday but owner wasnt there wanted to talk to him. I think the younger kid there is more of the sales person. I asked for an all around foliar spray to give them a boost if it was a lack of something. He sold me something on sale and when I got home it was printed on back of bottle for hydro use only. So I'm sceptical to use itn

Interesting is this a guy some one you know well ? The QB96 Elite V2 is a white LED Board with boosted red spectrum with the Heat sink is $ 99 a piece right now on HLG was thinking 3 boards for a 4x4 space but would need to buy the Driver as well plus either buy or build a frame for it .

Meh. I've talked to him a few times. They have been there for a while and he seems like a solid dude.

Either way, it might be worth a call. Like a "I heard you guys have good prices on HLG stuff" kinda thing. Last time I was in there he was going on about how good his prices were on HLG stuff. Maybe he can beat the price online and you can get it the same day instead of waiting.

I like cobs too, but their quantum Boards are more my style. The 260 is super small and has been pumping out rock hard buds for me all summer.

Yup. Same here. I got my light and tent setup for under $400. It's the perfect size for perpetual auto grows throughout the year regardless of what's happening outside with the big girls.
