I remember learning at school that our country (england) could not get earthquakes as we have no fault lines running below us. We've had a few in the past few years.

It seems there is a relation to global warming and the frequency of earthquakes. This is also just the beginning, as each year passes 'freak' weather will become more severe and happen more often.

We have never heated up this quickly before. I'm not sure how quick and how bad gw is going to affect the human race. What I do know is that with each passing year scientists predictions as to how bad things will be are belittled.

I fear that even with our drives to lower Co2 emissions we are already too late.

Just on the earthquakes m8, if you look you'll find that there is at least 1 earthquake a year somewhere in the U.K. these are small however measuring around 3.5-4.5 or so. Larger earthquakes are rarer about 1 ever 10 years, these measure about 4.5-5.5. Larger than that and its about 1 every hundred years or so. So its not really that unusual.

If you read all of my post you'll note that I stated this is what I was taught in school. You'll also note that after that i said that we've had a few in the past few years. A few in the past few years is hardly a declaration of rarity.

well fdd if you didn't so many beans you wouldn't have a problem with the quakes. and it would help with the smell too.

newcastle doesn't have many natural disasters, but when we do, we do it right!

1989 earthquake was a 5.6 and it caused over AU$5 billion of damage killed 13 people, injured over 160 and killed the CBD's business even up to the present date, you can still see the abandoned buildings that are slowly getting rebuilt.

and just recently we had a flash flood and torrential rain that destroyed most of the lake Maquarie water front, and so far has cause half a billion AU$ in only 2 weeks!

thats not counting the Pasha bulker tanker ship that grounded it's self on one of our most popular beaches during the storm!

its over now, but the insurance claims are still coming in!

Only earthquake I've been through I only knew it was happening before it hit because the cat went coocoo for cocoapuffs.

Apparently they can feel them a time before it happens.
