I am always a bit surprised and dismayed when people who probably consider themselves decent folk suggest torture.
Putting Donald in a prison cell would be torture and denying him TV would be extreme torture. The whining would be deafening! They say the average person who did this kind of crime would face psychological torture, bright lights and unpleasant music played at high volume, not something likely to happen to Donald.

Torture is inflicting suffering, physical or psychological pain, it happens everyday in America, as cops light up suspects with tasers to torture or get them to comply, without getting their hands dirty. I'm not advocating torture, but torture is sometimes a subjective thing, for Trump it would be fetching his own diet coke, or having someone talk back to him and publicly humiliate him. Denying someone a smoke or a drug they are addicted to while they are in jail is torment too.

Slight correction.

Torture has the deliberate premeditated component applied to an action outside the legal or moral domain.

Waterboarding was brought up. That hits all the markers.

That isn’t something that a more disciplined mind than that man’s could choose to feel less acutely, like the simple removal of his ego nutrients. That is a hardship but not torture.

Just saying in real life the line is sometimes fuzzy, other times they just break into your house and stick your cock in a lamp socket.

I am unaware of one instance where the line is fuzzy, assuming the operator(s) on the perpetrator side are not angry. Which is a hard condition: something that serious does not benefit in any way from nonzero involvement of sentiment.

If I’m wrong, perhaps a link to not a vid …

Well denying someone a cigarette is torment and saying it's a vice they brought upon themselves is a moralistic rationalization, an example of fuzziness. I mean we torment poor Donald constantly here, but he's not around to experience it, but as they say, it's the thought that counts.

A liberal democracy normally does not permit such things and we try to stay within certain rules and ideals, circumstances permitting. However there are sociopaths, those like Trump and worse, who enjoy inflicting suffering on others and delight in it, normal people generally do not, unless socialized to it or driven to it by tribalism.

torment/torture. Torment covers the petty sadisms of daily life with assholes (socios).

That should defuzz the line to a degree.
