Male or Female?

Hello guys and gals,

I am growing two plants oudoors. They are in 2 gallon containers. They are doing very well (2 ft tall, very bushy and green, and healthy looking.) I was wondering two things.

First off, the plants are in 2 gallon pots. I live in the West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Western Md area with mostly sunny days and average summer temp 75-80. Although the plants are in 2 gallon pots, the soil over the last few months has seemed to drop to about 1-1.25 gallons, with it being this late in the summer and flowering probably starting soon, would it be worth my while to pull the plants out of the pots and filling in a gallon or so of potting soil and placing the plants on top of the soil I just put in? Or is it late enough in the year and since they are healthy should I just let them go?

Secondly, I am having trouble telling the sex of the plants. I have read tons about how to tell and have bought a book with pictures, but I so far haven't been able to notice any hairs, pistils, or whatever you would call them. Would the pistils form at the top or bottom of the plant first? Is there a certain spot I need to be looking? Also, the seeds I used to grow these plants were in a bag of very good weed I bought. One of the plants smells much skunkier than the other one and seems to be growing a bit bushier. Would this have a higher chance of being female than the other or is it just a healthier plant? Thanks for the help!!

I would put my plants in more dirt they still get A LOT bigger when their flowering, just be extra careful of the roots.

As for the telling the sex just wait you should be able to tell soon. Smell has nothing to do with what it's sex is, I had 2 plants growing, the 1 that smelled like chronic ended up male. The bushier one is more likely a female than a male, but you never know.

Good luck

female flower will have little white hairs at the top and at the nodes along the main stem
male flowers will have balls in these locations ...kinda like grapes
male and female primordia can look the same at beginning stages so wait til u see pistils before determining sex

if the plants branch structure begins to stagger as opposed to grow symmetrical, you've more than likely got a female.

i believe male plants stagger also
this happens when vegetated long enough
staggered branching is the plants way of saying its ready to flower

all the males that I've grown when vegged enough, staggered just like a female...here's a good pic from like 2 months ago...male
