I think it is safe to say that there is no best way, only many options. For what purpose will you use your oil?

It's going to be a bit difficult to get gold oil your first time. Reddish is going to be easier and more common. Black and green being the most contaminated.
ISO and BHO will be popular methods.
However lets see what dawg has to say. I would value his suggestions greatly.

I usually go with the ISO method just because it's easier to obtain and is really easy to do. I usually get a nice reddish color but nothing pretty like the one on SkunkPharm website (which is killingggg me cause I can't get that color!) but I do make a decent dark red color. Black and green means you got a lot of chlorophyll (and usually doesn't taste very good).

Typically folks treat smoking oil differently than eating oil. Non polar BHO is more forgiving that polar solvents like alcohol and the finish is what turns it into vaporizing or oral meds, in that oral meds are usually decarboxylated and smoking meds are not.
Ok thanks to all you that's helped me .. so I don't gotta use bud in it ? And is it ok to try it with a male plant first if I even have one. I have 18 this year and I think one is me but it won't start to flower yet all the rest done started to bud but its lacking 2 hours of sun unlike the others

Buds are best but you can make oil with sugar trimmings, stems and leaves. (The better the product the better the oil) Male is going to be a very low yield with very low potency. If you have a male, chop, dry and use in coconut Oil for eatables. (You can re-soak that oil later to make it more potent.)
