Make your own promix cheap

Peat Moss 65-75%
Perlite 10-20%
Dolomite Lime (1 cup per cubic foot)
Water Crystals (2 Tbs per cubic foot)
Epsom Salts (2 Tbs per cubic foot)
Mycorrizae (follow directions)
Worm Castings (1 lb per cubic foot)

should be about half the price of the promix to make it yourself.

no, you use it just like pro=mix, which is out of a bag.

been thinking of doing this just because a friend of mine has his own peat source,but its bog peat is it ok to use this type of peat or whats the recomendation on type of peat used for making your own mix.

Ok then same stuff I call it peatbog they call sphagum peat moss , I get for free , but fresh from the swamp . he sells bulk to those companys like premier.Now I just have to get up a excuse why I want some peat from him because he just screened me 10yrs of topsoil last week no charge .

YES , it does have to sit, with you periodically wetting it down for the lime to start acting. and it will take some time, how long depends on how fine the grade of lime your using. Peat is very acidic, in the 4-5 range, sticking your plants in that medium and not giving any time for the lime to adjust, isnt gonna fair so well

well, you buy pro-mix and it has lime and peat and you use it straight from the bag, Why is this any different?

Do you know if Lime has to be wet before it will do anything? Perhaps Promix presoaks and cooks their mix with the lime and then dries it before packaging. Just a guess...

wetting this mix and letting it sit for a couple of weeks before using is a good idea.

if I have to cook it, I may as well make supersoil. Or just keep spending the money on pro-mix and it's ready when i need it.
