looking to switch to HPS

So I have been on the CFL route for awhile, & plan to veg my violator kush, white berry, & ak 48 with cfl's this go round again.... do the 70W or 100W HPS [medium base] provide enough juice to cover flowering?? What are the down falls here? I ask because it seems a no brainer to not have to invest in a grow light set up [ballast & all] if these HPS bulbs will work in a medium [regular] light socket?? Is it possible to just take out the CFL's and screw in the smaller HPS when its time to flower [ my ventilation is good enough to handle the heat already]

HPS lights need a ballast. the smaller ones (50-150watt)use a standard light socket but still need a ballast
you will have more heat to deal with as well but its not a big deal. I had a 150 watt hps outdoor flood light that I remoted the ballast(search this site -it has several posts on how to)& added a 2.5 in hole in the side attached to a pvc tube w/ a PC fan to suck the air out of the closet. after running several hours, you could touch the glass in front of the bulb.it worked great.

I just made my jump to hids.
Got my Wappa, Sensi star, Motavation, AK48, an some autos going.
I gota cab 3x2x3 with two 175w MV for veg I got for free.
For flower ill use two 150w HPs conversion bulb in there at 50$ each.

You should get a dual ballast that runs a hps an Mh. The bulbs are cheep
You must have ballast to run those HId bulbs.

Definatly get fans bigger than a cpu fan. I used a 50 cfm bathroom fan.
Get a cool tube or diy some 1/4 in firewire glass (what i did) in there in somthing to keep the heat down.

Im sure hoping it will make dense bud like the outdoors......
My sig has footage of it when i just got one bulb an cfl going in it.

I just got that same one, its very nice and blows 4 of my 100watt cfl's away, not very hot compared to my 600watt, its a good deal. Stuffs growing better/faster since the switch, i use it for my vege while im waiting for my flowering plants to finish. I have my vegging plants in a 3 gallon DWC rubbermaid, amazing results so far
