Long veg time. Maybe bad genetics or not autos. Should I flip to 12/12?

Another trich shot from this morning. I really struggled to get a good shot this morning, and didn't really succeed. Danger of trying to concentrate before coffee, I guess.

Today is day 108 from seed, day 57 of 12/12.

We have a bit of cold air here on the island, my water barrels have frozen. Running the heater a bit more, ambient humidity down to 40%, getting down just below 30% in the tent.

Here's a bunch of pics - one of each plant, then one of the main cola. Also a pic of a bud I thought looked nice. While playing with the USB scope yesterday I saw some traces of purpling in a couple of clusters of trichomes. I'm hoping the purps come on stronger haha.

Plant 1: Look, Dad, I got's the frosty foxtails!

Plant 2 - started out as triploid.

Thanks for the complements, guys! At the rate that they are putting out pistils again with the foxtailing, dunno when they'll look done. Other tops are looking like they are starting to foxtail.

Started tapering ferts two waterings ago. They Do Not Like That At All. Noticeable yellowing this evening on plant 2. These girls were all heavy feeders.

I had sacrificed a bit of bud for the scope a couple of days ago. Was dry today, so into the vape it went. Total terpenes. Could not believe how the citrus came through on the exhale. Can't say much about the high, as I may or may not have just had a bowl of GG#4.

Enough internet for tonight..

Started the harvest today. First time trimming, I now appreciate how tedious it is, but having fun with it anyway.

Didn't take too many pics, but here's a shot of the main cola on the smallest plant. My trimming skills leave much to be desired, but a slightly rough trim doesn't bother me - this is all for personal/family/friend consumption. May do some cleanup after drying.

Look at all those white spots from foxtails.

Oh yeah, day 111 from seed, day 60 of 12/12. 16 weeks old tomorrow.

A few more pics from harvest day. 30 odd branches hung in the drying cab. These were the two smaller plants in 3 gallon fabric pots. The larger plants will go to next weekend, I think.

Wouldn't you know it got cold and dry here on the west coast just as I want to dry. Trying to get the humidity back up to 50%.

The remaining plants (referred to as plant 1 and plant 4 in previous posts)

A bud shot from a branch on plant 4. Frostiest buds of the four plants, nice, bright orange pistils, lots more bud compared to the smallest plant (go figure, haha).

Today is day 116 from seed, day 65 of 12/12.

Took some microscope pics of trichomes this morning. Mostly cloudy, a few clear, but really not much amber on the calyxes. CHOP CHOP on Friday or Saturday, I think

So partial weight for this grow.
Jarred the bud from the two small plants today, a bit over 2.5 oz from plant 2, and just over 1.5 from plant 3, total 4.1oz. so far.

The two bigger plants are still going

edit: 115.6 grams total

Oh, and 2 oz dried trim and larf. A lot of plant 3 was lower stuff I should have trimmed off two months ago. Oh well, another thing to add to the "things I learned" list.

Hey RIU, I'm spamming pictures again today.
Day 118 from sprout, day 67 of 12/12.

Here's a pic of the remnants of plant 3. I left 3-4 larfy buds and some leaves after harvest, it's grown a few more leaves in the last week, still under 12/12,
feb15b.jpg

Foxtails, in my opinion, make buds look like shit.
feb15a.jpg

Trich shots from this morning. Things are coming along. A very few amber showing up, much more cloudy, and still some clear. It's a bit of a challenge to take pics without foxtails for one plant.

A few days ago I was thinking chop today or tomorrow, but maybe Monday now.

Man I cannot thank you enough for this post and your replies telling me to hold off on the flip. Because I was on the verge of going 12/12. The first pic was taken 8 weeks from seed with massive veg growth but just the tiniest of pistils throwing from the main bud sites. Everyone else’s auto grows id seen were almost DONE in 8 weeks! I left her at 20/4 anyways after talking to you and here we are just 23 days later in the second pic!!! Bud production has absolutely taken OFF since kicking into flower, apparently I just had an extra long veg period for whatever reason.

Sorry the pics are so bad, I recommend clicking the actual pic link on my 2nd photo and hitting the magnifying glass to see the frost she's already throwing off. I'll try to get way better pics as she finishes up.

Yeah, you have some nice looking buds forming there. I wonder what mine would have been like had I had the patience that I asked you to have, hahahaha. Really glad that it is working out for you!

It's harvest day today! We had a cold snap and very low humidity just as I was trying to dry the first two plants, it has warmed up a bit, so ambient humidity has also recovered a bit, but I will try a dry trim this time in an effort to make drying last more than 5 days.

Even without a cure this stuff vapes pretty good. Feels good, man. Not surprisingly, it tastes a bit "green". Back to my jar of GG#4 for the next month or two....

Well hell it's hard to wait when every post about long vegging auto's is full of people saying "oh it must be a photo you better flip to 12/12". It's also hard when you're looking at an 8 week old plant that you don't think has even started to flower and believe it's an auto lmao. But hey it looks like you ended up with killer results anyways, i'll be more than happy if my end product looks like yours!

Hey guys. The chop is done today, day 121 from sprout, day 70 of 12/12. There is noticeably more, and denser buds from these two larger plants. I'm sure the extra 10 days didn't hurt either, although these plants did start flowering 3 to 6 days later than the two I previously harvested.

Here's some pics of the buds hanging in my drying cabinet. There is much more bud here than in the picture of the first half harvest.
feb18a.jpg feb18b.jpg

Here's what's left of plant 1. Left quite a few popcorn nugs and leaves in an attempt to reveg if this is not an auto.
feb18d.jpg
Same deal with plant 4
feb18c.jpg
and here's plants 1, 3, and 4 from left to right. Plant 3 has been sitting there under 12/12 for 10 days since harvest. They all went under 24 hours light today.
feb18e.jpg
Will update with dry weight in a week, and an update on reveg.

PS Managed to stay out of the scissor hash until everything was hung. Mind you, there wasn't much from removing just the larger fans from the buds. haha

Great you just kicked in the pants to get them going. Just know its a way to get some stubborn plants to play along.

Great looking girls.

Time to start the "Things I learned" list!

Things I learned from this grow:
1. Have patience. I believe this will be easier on subsequent grows as much of my impatience was driven by a desire to get on to the next step/phase. Have now been there, done that.
2. Buy good genetics. Still going to have some duds, etc. but chances of success are higher with good starting material.
3. I can grow more weed in one grow in a 2x4 tent than I can smoke in 2 years. I don't have that high a tolerance, and I don't usually vape more than .2-.3g/day.
4. If your canopy is not at one level, results will suffer - top the damn plant to counter apical dominance. Lower tops suffer from being farther away from the light.
5. Clean up the lower sections of the plant. Those shaded bud sites don't produce much, and are not worth trimming. Counterpoint is that the quality of the trim marginally improves, but what happens to the total harvest? Dunno.
6. Leaving some leaves on does slow down drying.
7. Corollary to #1: Let the buds mature.
8. I like the simplicity of growing in soil. My reading indicates that soil is less likely to suffer from wide pH swings due to the buffering ability of the soil. We have a lot of power outages around here due to winter storms, and I'd hate to lose a crop because I couldn't aerate a DWC for a couple of days.
9. Not every leaf is perfect. Don't worry about the odd brown spot, tear or twisted leaf. Monitor, but if the problem doesn't spread, ignore it.
10. Mosquito dunks are effective at eliminating fungus gnats. Just keep putting it in the water.
11. Put way more dolomite lime in the soil for the next grow. I watered with rainwater, and had no calcium or trace minerals in the water. CalMag was necessary with each watering.
12. Soil needs more, and longer lasting, potassium sources than I used for this grow. I needed to supplement with kelp extract quite a bit in veg. Bloom nutrients eliminated the need for other supplemental potassium.

I'm sure quite a few other things will occur to me over time....
