Long veg time. Maybe bad genetics or not autos. Should I flip to 12/12?

The last part of this is wrong. Most companies S/F 1 a auto and put it out and it's garbage but people buy cheap. Take a top of the line breeder like Mephisto who have strains as far along as F7 and most F4 or higher and you have as consistant as you might find. People research bad, buy cheap and toy around too much and thats why they might not get best results.
Thanks for the info, man. Their prices seem pretty typical to me, so I'll definitely check 'em out.

You should. I think you would have a better experience with breeders who dedicate themselves to REALLY progressing autos rather than jist companys that make some because people want autos. Mephisto is closed till Jan 3rd but you can get their stuff from other banks if you can't wait. Dinafem, Sweet Seeds, Dutch Passion and Fast Buds would also be good sources but id roll with Mephisto or Dinafem for top notch at the moment.

. I just suspect that's the way it is with autos. Total consistency is probably only doable by cloning photos.
Not so sure about that. I have had 100% success rate with Dinafem, and Dutch Passion. FemaleSeeds auto's was a bit of a let down. I have not tried mephisto yet, but the reviews and grow journals for them speak for themselves.

Yeah, I stand corrected on this. And that's SO good to know too because after growing a few different strains I was beginning to fear it was just hit and miss with autos. Glad to know there's strains for which that's not case. I shouldn't have to buy seeds for a while, but I'll definitely be looking at strains that are F4 and above next time I need them.

The thing is some won't even say how many generations they've been bread for this ecaxt reason. Who will willingly spend money on S/F 1 seeds never knowing what they'll get? New growers don't know about these things that separate well bread strains from cash grabs. I like that Mephisto will show what is F1 or how far along they bread their stuff. They sell their F1s(Illuminautos) cheaper than other seeds for that reason its a fresh cross with no work yet to nail exact traits.

Time for an update.

Nine weeks old today, day 63 from seed, starting day 12 of 12/12.

Stretch still under way, the girls are 24, 22 and 18 inches tall in the 5, 4, and 3 gallon pots respectively.

The two small girls seem to be throwing out pistils this morning, the larger ones are not showing much sign of flowering yet. Time to practice patience again.

I did a bit of defoliation after the pics were taken, nothing too radical, just some of the bigger fan leaves.blocking light.

Hey RIU, it's boxing day, hope everyone had an awesome Christmas.

Today is day 67 from seed, day 16 of 12/12. I can finally see that all four girls have started flowering, if only barely in one case. Stretch is still underway, Tall girl on the right has added 50% to her height since the flip.

Here's some pics from this morning before the lights went out. I need to figure out how to manually set the iris on my phone, some pics look too dark to me.

Today is day 71 from seed, F21. This being my first grow, I'm quite interested in seeing how the buds are developing, and the structure of buds along stems. May have to commandeer the wife's camera and tripod so I can get some nice macro pics instead of generic cell phone pics.

Anyway, here's a couple of pictures from this morning.

Here's a bit of an update from last night. Day 75 from seed, 24 days since flip.

Added the 6 gen II EB strips to the light. Now drawing 500 Watts from the wall with the 10 gen 1 strips and these six running full out. I have dimmed the gen 1 strips to the point where my lux meter is showing 64klux at the canopy. You can see that the new strips have twice as many leds.

I've also been playing around with a makeshift macro lens for my cellphone. It turns out that one of those hobbyist magnifying visors works quite well, just hold the phone up to the lens. Here's a few pics.
First attempt - you can see the outline of the diopter.

Couple closer in. Not sure of the magnification level, estimating that it is about 5x. Very shallow depth of field with this, can't get all the pistils in this bud in focus.

Another couple of days, another sort-of update. Day 78 from seed, day 27 of 12/12.

This morning I took a couple of pics of the main stems on the two plants in 3 gallon fabric pots. There is a huge difference in flower progression. The plant with more bud development began flowering 7 to 10 days before the lesser developed one. I'll have to take some comparison pictures again in 7 to 10 days to see how the laggard looks then to the more developed one today.

I'll also note that the more developed plant started out life as a triploid mutant, but reverted to two leaves/shoots after the third node. This plant has always been the most robust, thick, thick foliage, darker green, no sign of the potassium deficiency that the others had early in veg.

Anyway, one now has formed an actual cola, all the other plants still have separate buds.

Now back to waiting....

No pics today. Day 81 from seed, day 30 of 12/12.

Had a scare last night with the snow storms here on Van Isle. I had 20cm of snow in the back yard, and now it's raining for a few days.... Lots of power outages. Fortunately, we were without power for only about 2 hours last evening. The building the girls are in is an electrically heated shop and it got down to 14C inside momentarily. Things should be OK. Power came on just after 9:00 PM, just in time for lights on. Reset the timer last night, and all looks good today.

On an unrelated note, the government online store is now selling SOME seeds. A whopping selection of two varieties supplied by the LP Canopy Growth. I did purchase a pack of the Hindu Kush landrace. Get this - Just over $71 for four fem seeds, shipping and tax. Quite the scam, I think. Oh well, at least I'll have evidence of having purchasing "Legal" seeds should it ever become an issue in the future.

I do like a heavy indica, so will pop one next grow, just to see how it works out. User reviews are mixed.

It looks like RIU is back in business after yesterday's outage.

I have an update from last night, which was day 83 from seed, and 32 days of 12/12.

Finally did something to address the overcrowding in the 2x4 tent. I've added a 2x2x5 cabinet next to the tent, and moved the largest girl into it. She pretty much uses the whole cabinet. Lighting is not optimal, just 160 watts of mostly 2700K screw in lights. The lighting is not really very good, but maybe with the better room to grow for all the plants overall yield won't suffer too much.

I'll be using this cabinet for drying (without lights), so as soon as I harvest a plant, the girl in the cabinet will go back into the tent.

I also noticed the girls have developed a nice citrus scent in the last couple of days, and some frost is starting to form on the sugar leaves. Here's a few pics:

Big girl in her new home (circulating fans added after pic). She is a bit crooked, but that's because she is straightening up from some supercropping on the main stem a few weeks ago.

Here's one from above. Pretty much filling the 2x2 space.:

Here's the other three girls in the 2x4 tent.

Shifting gears, my order of Hindu Kush (Tilray call it "Bakerstreet") seeds came in the mail Thursday. Four small, pale, underdeveloped looking seeds. ONLY $71 CAD after taxes and shipping from the BC Cannabis Store. Looks like the lack of quality in LP bud I received carries over into the only "legal" seeds so far offered for sale by LPs and the government.

Today is day 85 from seed, 34 days of 12/12.

Not much going on with the grow, but I did clean up the bottom of the girls a bit this morning. This is the girl from the first picture in the post above.

Jan13a.jpg
In comparison, it looks like I took more than I really did - different camera angles, I guess. I'll give them a few days to recover, then see whether some more of those bottom leaves should go. I'm tempted to just leave them now.

Also finally disconnected the tie downs from my first attempt at LST on the lower branches. I think it did spread the plant out a fair bit. None of the plants were topped.

I remember reading about Candy Cane autos not flowering on their site. I hesitantly chose some as a prize.
The first one was a slow starter but flowered and gave me a late bloomer. Nice hard nugs though.
I have a weird looking CC seedling right now. :wall:

If I could grow a plant with that much bud on it, I would be so happy. haha.

So that is a pic of your first CC auto? Looks good. Plant structure sure looks similar to my last post.

Yeah the nodes spaced out nicely. I did a bit of lst. I call it the bowl method, but I'm sure it has many names.
This was right before harvest, after it had been lollipopped.

I've had better and bigger plants auto-flowering plants from Fastbuds, and ILGM.
Sensi seeds skunk #1 gave me party hat sized colas.
So did the Fastbuds-GSC and ILGM-White Widow.
I am hoping for another stellar run off of both right now.

Candy was dank. Got way better with cure.
I think I have a 3g cola left of it in a special occasion jar.
