Long Flowering Vs. Short Flowering potency

I was thinking the other day about haze plants and how ridiculously long their flowering times are compared to the sativa/indica hybrids. My question is, can an indica with a short flowering time pump out the same amount of thc in the long flowering time a long flowering haze plant does in it's long flowering time? Obviously some strains are weaker than most but does the long flowering time of haze strains really equal to more thc?

Short answer is no. I've seen plenty of indicas and grown many that have high levels of thc. It all boils down to starting with solid genetics. I honestly prefer a high thc indica over a high thc sativa.

I find the long flowering sativas have more character, in both fragrance, smoke and high. I grew out a couple of Hawaiian Snow sativas outdoors that went to mid November and they were the only green thing left in the field. The plants got huge, 10 foot plus and hung over laden with colas that smelled like lilacs and chives. And the smoke was powerful and long lasting. Also the bud seemed to last longer in jars than the short flowering varieties. Only thing is you need a long grow season I got lucky that summer

No. The % of THC a plant will produce is inherent of the genetics. A plant that grows a bigger bud will physically have more THC, but will not necessarily be as potent.

Well damn. So the only reason for growing long flowering haze strains are for things like taste and smell? So if you're a medical grower there really wouldn't be a point to growing something that takes an extra 2 months to grow?

So how was the high compared to the other strains exactly?

no, sativas have a more clear headed, motivational high when compared to indicas, which tend to be more stony then sativas.

It simply takes Sativas longer to reach optimal maturity. Like Racerboy says, the type of high you get is different. I personally would prefer smoking a Sativa during the day because is wont make you a couch potato, it has that mental high. An Indica has more of a body, relaxed, sleepy high.

Well I know that they give you different highs but hybrids? I mean if you breed a sativa high with an indica flower you'd get a phenotype with a sativa high and indica flowering time correct? Or something close to it? but what I'm asking can this extra maturation time be used to push out more thc or is it just that they take longer to mature?

Breeding Sativa's and Indica's together will mix traits, but that is pretty complicated. Letting the plant grow longer will only give you a bigger bud, not a higher level of THC.

It is just that they take longer to mature.
You can find high THC levels in Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid.
It all depends on what kind of effect you're after, getting high, being stoned, or somewhere in between.

Well that does makes sense I appreciate everyone's responses :D i guess the only question I have now is why anyone would grow out a long flowering haze plant other for taste and smell.

Did you read the thread?

People grow out long flowering "haze" plants for BUZZ TYPE....

Sativas have a motivational high, which a lot of us thinks is worth the extra grow time.

I grow more sativas and sativa hybrids than anything else because I don't like sinking into the couch until later at night.
I smoke sativas mostly during the day and then switch to harder hitting indicas at night.

Good question, only reason I do it is for personal preference.

The majority of people that question long flowering sativas are ones who haven't tried real sativa varieties (or prefer a heavy indica coma).... A nice true Sativa will have complex multi layed high that has loads of character....much more than indicas or hybrids...I personally don't think you can get a TRUE sativa high in under 12 weeks of flowering. Plus, I like roller coaster, heart racing, fear-inducing, trippy smoke.

Depends on the sativa. Columbians are extremely stony. Thais are extremely clear headed, racy and some describe acid like feelings.

I am starting to think it doesn't matter whether it's indica or sativa, it's the terpenoid profile that matters. ANd yeah, some sativas have unique terpene profiles that makes the smoke incredibly desirable.

I understand the stereotypes but I don't really think they fit except in a fairly general sense.

It's not about the THC. It's about the affect. DJ Short (breeder of Blueberry) said the best he ever had tested @ 7% THC. Yet it was the best he ever had, and he's clearly had some awesome stuff in his many decades with many connections int he industry.

Oh bring me the paranoia.

I'm with you. You should get Sugar Punch when it drops, you'll like it a lot. :)
