Do it anytime, doesn't increase yield, helps prevent problems due to poor air circulation

It increases yield in the sense that you have far less popcorn buds at harvest. I tend to just toss all the tiniest buds in the hash pile anyway, so when I lollipop the plant I end up with far more usable weight.

if you have 10 tomatoes growing on the same branch and if you pluck 3-4 of the smaller ones in the beginning, the rest will get bigger compared to if you didnt touch them at all.

does it overall increase the yield of tomatoes? maybe a little bit but mostly it increases quality.

you dont want popcorns on the bottom you want nugs on top.

My limited experience suggests no, it just fattens up nicely what is left. Its more about improving quality over quantity/yeild.

Lollipopping doesn't improve yield, per se, but it ensures that the buds on your plant are more evenly ripe and plump.

The lower buds often get little to no intense light. keeping them in a somewhat immature-ripened state compared to the top buds.

Iv found that the time to start lollipopping for bigger upper buds is when u decide to go 12/12 , and or when using a trellis temporarily then,like I do , or going trellis all the way creating an even canopy of trellis held buds with over 75% lollipopped underneath....as they transition after beginning 12/12 u will find little buds with smaller stems starting to grow more than halfway down the larger branched stems , pinch and snip them all off ...u can go more than halfway up lollipopping an umbrella ,and foresee the results like I do when u harvest the tallest tops only,letting the next lower tops down bloom another 1-2wks before harvesting them gives u the window to increase yield and/or quality of all the 'preshaded-popcorns'

I’ve been doing the bud-on-a-stick method for ages. It works great for me. The lower branches don’t produce much, and they just suck nutrients away from the main cola. I cut them all off and use them as clones- they are stored in ziplock bags with a little bit of water in the bottom drawer of the fridge until needed.
