if you only have lights above the plant then the bottom branches only have smallish buds,,so to help the plant put all her energy into growing the fattest top buds..you cut off the low ones
does that make sense now...??? :weed:

I can settle with small buds..Or i can even buy some CFLs along
with a HPS to supplement them tiny buds.. So many options but
yeah i see the point of the lolly :-P

ok, but, in my case, the white rhino, its a bushy short plant so all of the branches will eventually be at the same height no?

WR is a bushy motherfucker..Id say get a few CFLs for side
lighting..Or prune that beast.
you can't dangle cfl's between the foliage, i've tried, you'll just burn your leaves
and the bottom leaves get no light with the cfls, that's why i prune the bottom but not lollipop, 1/2 my tallest grow shoots start from the base from using the LST method

basically, if there's a leaf shadowing it directly above it, it's not getting any light and will fall off later in the growth process. next you wanna find all the grow shoots and see if a fan leaf is covering it, that fan leaf can go, or you can use paperclips to hold your shoots how you want them. bascially go around the bottom 4th of your plant and cut off the fan leaves, trust me, they'll fall off later

to allow the starting branches to come through?
yea, but don't prune all crazy if it's under a foot because fan leaves are the plant's source of energy, when they get bigger, the fan leaves on the grow shoots have enough energy to preserve the plant(you can take the ones from the bottom this will increase airflow decreasing humidity

the lolipop method is mostly used for packing in plants closer together and with side branches it'll cause a canopy neglecting other plants to recieve its fair share of light so might as well cut side branches and grow 1 main cola thats the most fire part of the plant anyway & it increase air flow.if your not doing a sog & packing plants close then lolipop'n ain't for you thats prob. I hope this makes alittle more sense to you.

my m8 lollipops just by taking loads of like medium-big sized clones from the mothers an then flowering them asap, so u dont have very big plants but there r looads of single bud smallish plants which grow real nicely as they got loads of light wher they need it as there isnt loads of foliage blocking the light to any of them.
it really does look like a bunch of lollipops an it gets a nice little yeild actually.
personally i prefer just having less plants with more yield tho but each 2 their own i guess!

Im curious what would be the difference between trimming and if you had tightly spaced plants and didnt trim and just let the lower leaves die on their own?
