Lighting question; T5 or small hps?

Hey

I have a small cabinet that i want to use as a grow cabinet. The dimentions are 20" deep x 30" wide x 36 " high. I built a small bubbleponic system that fits in nicely, but is 14 " tall. This leaves me all of 22" of vertical grow space. I wanted to put in a 150-250 hps light, but i think thats gonna take up too much verical space (6") and cut down on my grow height. I was looking at a 2 ft 6 bulb T5 system. It fits in nicely,(only 2" vert space needed) but i'm not sure about the T5's for flowering. I'm gonna put them into flower in 1-3 weeks to keep them small, but even then, wont they get 18" plus. With the T5 they can get real close to the light w/o burning, but with the hps they will burn. I'm a ong time outdoor grower, but this indoor stuff is real new to me. Any help is appriciated, i really want to make this grow a good one, but i'm stuck on the lights.

Ps- i'll be growing 4-6 world of seeds afghan kush feminized
Thanks

i would go with the t5's in a space that short, you will be losing far to much space with the hps because you can't get too close to the bulb. you may want to consider looking into lst (low stress training), which will allow you to grow your plant bigger while decreasing the overall height needed.

I agree. Not only will the HPS be too hot for such a small space, but it'll also be too big and you'll have to keep the plants a fairly large distance away from the bulb meaning you won't be able to get as big of plants.

I think the t-5 or led's would work better than putting a furnace in a box. If you would like to see some results you could view my thread, I have a few things too say about them and check out thunderchunkie's led grow. VV

Ok- i ordered a 2' x 4 bulb t5 system- the 6 bulb wouldnt fit. Once i get it up and running, ill post it in the grow journal section.

I'd grow with the t5's and maybe add some cfl's to the setup. Should be more than enough

I used to have just one 150w hps lamp in a smaller grow space, heat really became an issue.
