Lighting question or thought

Mr I Can Do That For Half
Well I was sitting around blown and staring at some of my extra stuff laying around and thinking I might try something little new to me and wanted to see if anyone has done it before and to waht out come.Ok my little 16 plant soil grow I started with 24 hour mh 400 watt lighting for 14 days. I just went to a 600 watt hps light for the first day. Now heres is where Im thinking a new switch up. I like saving moeny and I like nice dense buds. So I was thinking now that I am 12/12 that I wanna run the 600 watt light for about 4-5 weeks this will get the budding started and going but as we all know its the last 4 weeks or so we see heavy additions so I though why not change the 600 watter after 5 weeks to a 1000 watt light til finish saving me 5 weeks of 1000 watt usage but hitting the plants with an extra 400 watts when the buds really flower and get big.Think there would be any bad effects of increasing the light intensity later in the flowering or you think the extra light will just add that much more goodness to the plants?? Will save me some electric money as the plants will be well into flower and being using only 100 watts for half the flower time..Wha cha guys think..just curious had these couple extar 1000 watters laying around in storage and figured might as well fire 1 up with the new hortix bulb I never used lol

I have wondered about this. It the reason not to use a 400 watt over twenty flowering plants is you can't penetrate that height than what about before they are 3' tall. Is the 400 big enough then. And then 600 watt and 1000watt or better yet two 600's. VV

Lumens are a measurement for human eyes, and have nothing to do with plants. The broad spectrum light the plant can actually use for photosynthesis is all that matters. Photosynthesis stops at 5500 FT-CD; any excess FT-CD's over that are converted to heat by the plants. More is not better, and FT-CD's should be the determining factor for "light placement over the plants". Check your garden with a light meter.

Thats it Im gonna do it cuz waffle used science talk so I have to use my eyes and see what happens lol.Im gonna hit them with the 1000 watter about half way through the flower cycle.
