Light question that hasn't been answered

Hi, I bought a 1000w switchable system and the MH bulb broke... so I had to go buy a 400w MH instead.

My question is

What would be better for the plants a 1000w HPS during veg, or a 400w MH during veg?

I know the spectrums are different... so I dont know what would be best to use.

well if you have a 400 you have a ballast for it too dont you? If so use both and get a dual spectrum going on all at once.

I have a switchable ballast at 1000w so I can only use one at a time.

Would the 600w of extra light outweigh the benefits of using a MH for vegging?

Well I don't think you can/should even put a 400w bulb in your 1000w ballast. Not positive though, I just got all the bulbs I'd need from the get go.

Wait?!? so you want to use a hps for flowering and a MH for veg???

Because if that is the case i need to go switch my lights!!

Rev's right, don't put a 400w any bulb in a 1000w ballast. Too bad they don't make variable watt ballasts.

That would be ideal if he can. MH is designed for vegging and HPS for flowering... you just have to make sure whichever one you're using is covering all your plants... if the 400 isn't strong enough to put light on all the vegging plants then the 1000w HPS would be better even though it's made to flower.

Just so you guys no, you can put any wattage bulb as long as its UNDER the recommended. So if you have a 1000w ballast, you can put a 600w blub in it as long as its the same (MH or HPS) I have been running a 400w bulb on my 1000w ballast for a while now without a hitch, I found this out after doing research online.

The 400w is enough to cover my plants thus far, but I am purchasing a 400w ballast tomorrow to run a dual spectrum.

You can see how my plants and stuff are doing at the link up their.

why are you linking at all. why not just post this in that thread so we don't have to have a link. The more threads, the more server space used and the harder it is to get answers. VV
