I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a source online to get black light proof 5 gallon buckets for less than the normal $8 a bucket that i find? I guess they dont need to be black but of course light proof. If not ill just fuss up the money and get some at the shop.

yeah shipping is killer on those i forgot to mention thats why it would be best to just buy at store even after my drive.
i get silver 5 gals that are light proof from lowes for 2.59 each. they dont say anything on them just silver (slightly reflective)
hmm im using the lowes blue ones now that were the same price and they are dark but def not light proof and ive seen the silver ones, wouldn't have thought they were light proof tho.

Get cheap buckets any color and insulate with the thin silver insulation from lowes. Comes in rolls it's as thin as bubble wrap and reflective. Worth the few bucks to Insulate them and skimp out on pricey buckets ? I have black buckets but I'm doin this to mine too so I figured I'd throw it out there.

Use any damn 5 gallon bucket and wrap the reflectix from lowes around it. Now use reflecting duct tape on any small cracks you missed and now the temps will also stay cooler.

thanks for the info guys. Trust me, if i had the money, i would have gone black buckets from the get go but when i needed 20 off the bat...2.50 sounded much better than 6-7 each. Now a days, im just going to go with the black buckets, they will always stay light proof without the worry of some coating falling off or something.

As for temps, my buckets say cool, i hope it stays that way for black buckets..:)

I go with cheap wastebaskets (which can be used for around the house), drill plenty of drainage holes, and then wrap with aluminum foil.

Or just do one layer of reflectics as one piece across your whole grow. i might do the same. I have a 4x4 tent so Ill cut a piece a little bigger and make a frame out of 1/2" wood trim and secure it to the tent poles with zip ties. I can take it out and clean it between grows easy this way

I'll tell you what, when i was i lowes today i was walking by those silver buckets and I remembered this so I grabbed it and went to the light and ceiling fan area. Those things are as light proof as the black ones at the grow shop for $3 compared to $7. Bad ass dude im buying all new buckets tomorrow. :D

The way i see it, black will get hotter, adding more heat. These being slightly reflective would make me think they wouldn't attract heat as bad and they are 100% light proof for $3.

Either choice will still benifit from being insulated. Reflectics at Home Depot is worth a few extra bucks.
