Light leaks.. will a faint leak keep plants from flowering?

I switched to 12/12 3 weeks and 4 days ago. Only one plant has showed it's sex and was a boy. I've got them up in the open attic. Got a 6x12 area closed in. I have my HPS light on at night and off during day to keep heat temps down in there. I just checked for light leaks and there is about a 8 foot long inch crack that is letting in a very faint light. Would that keep them from doing their thing? I don't understand the difference between that and if they were outside because don't they get light at night from the moon etc?

...if you can rid of the light leak, that would be best. I've seen this question over and over about the moon and light leaks. From what I understand, the sun is reflecting light off of the moon, therefore your ladies outdoors are not getting direct light. Direct light would be a problem.

Its all a matter of lumens. Yes plants can receive light at night, just very min amount.

Moonlight shouldn't hurt any plants, they've evolved growing under the moonlight.

Your 8ft long inch wide crack would concern me a lot.

you will get revegging plants and it wont be pretty. fix the leaks TODAY. you must.

I'm not sure what's worse frankly, too much light and you'll get reveg. Just a little light will cause hermies. Either way is not good.

you get reveg from insufficient light, not too much.

What do you mean? If you were purposefully revegging you would give it 24 hours of light to aid in the process. If you give a flowering plant a lot of light during flower it will stop flowering. Although I just read that Soma is trying to give his plants light during the flowering period but I'm not trying it myself.

pending on the typ of light leak.. if its outside light entering the room after lights out for only a couple hours won't hurt. in order to hurt a plant with light leaks you need bright light beaming on your plants not just light glare. hope this helps

yes and if there are light leaks at night then it thinks its getting light 24 hours.

what did you say?

im so confused. isnt that what were supposed to do?

Seal the crack and you're good to go, what happens to other plants doesn't mean it'll happen to yours. Any decent genetics will take some abuse and handle it well.

I think people get a tad obsessed with this... Oh no, there's light that's getting in through where my CFM fan's reside. I better take care of it now!! Light traps, etc..etc.... Bleh!

Do you best to ensure it's as Dark as you can get it (When it should be dark); this is easier when you are growing in a confined/controlled(to an extent) environment. (Cabinet, Room (No Windows).etc..etc..)

But if you see there is some light that is coming in through a variety of holes/cracks, ensure that if you are ok leaving it be, that those "Cracks" are at a level where the "leaked" light does not blanket your plants.
Otherwise, fix it. (You will have problems if it get's to this point *Leaked light covering the ladies :> *).

Don't sweat it.

I don't get it either. Here is the article I was talking about:

I’ve just finished taking some beautiful photo’s of my latest supercrop. I have never grown such large buds indoors. The added light stress of turning the lights on for an hour during the night period made the plants grow to the maximum height that my room allowed, bigger than ever. If anyone wants to repeat this method you have to have a grow room with a high ceiling so the lights can be hung up high. As I continued giving the plants water and food without changing the PH factor of the Amsterdam tap water with a PH of 8.3, I ended up with a PH factor of 7.8 in my soil. The stress of the PH and the light really stimulated the plants into making seeds, starting at the bottom and working it’s way to the tops. Unfortunately it also makes the crop take up to 6 weeks longer to finish, so you also need the extra time.

What are your thoughts on this?

thats old hippie shit i think. here is something else he said ...

I also keep track of the Moon cycles and try to harvest after the Full Moon when the Moon is waning. If the Moon can affect the tides of the oceans of Earth I know it affects a plant that is 68% water.

i would take everything he writes with a grain of salt.

dont sweat it? tell that to my buddy whos plants are 3months into 12/12 and still white hairs. its revegging due to him not blocking a basement window that has a light outside near it. his crop (3 plants) is ruined. it looks like the pic i photoshopped in this thread.

it does depend on the intensity of the light... i have a box sealed with duct tape around the corners which i know light shines through, and theres a small crack all the way around the door. the duct tape stop BRIGHT light and there are 2x4's all the way around the inside of the door. of course some light is getting in, but its like a dim glow as opposed to direct light shining straight onto my plants. if your real worried, get a green bulb n put it in your box. wont affect the plant at all and will soak up small leaks
