Hey all, Newby here, flouro grow first then added 4 CFL's + added 300 incandescent fourth day of flower hours....I am very interested in the LED trials I have read....5 band, the latest I've seen looks promising and will only get better. I am really interested in a 12 volt method. thinking of how bright these truckers lights are getting. Energy costs are going to go through the roof soon enough and we'll all be in the dark if we don't adapt in some way...If not voluntary it'll be by force. You guys were a bit hard on ZZag, I just think he was really curious and wanted to check out the thread. Probably a young dude, just lacked a little tact...is all. Looking forward to learn more by reading the thread....Great Idea LED's will be replaced some day too..Just a thot, (spelling intensional) d

It would be interesting to see the added UVB results. What are you going to use for that?

Keep on keepin on!

Sabra,

You say your adding incandescent lighting? Thats maybe not the best idea?...
A lot of led systems could function from 12V meaning it could be charged and supplied by solar panels and cells. Pretty sweet. Not that you could not do that with any other light...
We were not hard on zigzag, when the first comment in a thread is "i heard led suck ass", especially considering the introduction to the thread, it is quite disrupting to the overall goal of this thread.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Good call BradyBoe! You hit the nail on the head.

I have heard that it may extend flowering into a long period while using LED's, however, I am not an expert on the subject, so I cannot say for certain.

Thanks for the comment, and thanks for standing up for our right!

not sure about the entire length of flowering, but i originally thought they took longer to start flowering, but i was going from seed. here is a clone 2 weeks into flowering, now i dont have the same view.

well just a tip for anyone purchasing lights in the future, i have noticed stronger growth under stronger individual bulbs in the fixtures, meaning the prosource ufos i have are 1watt leds, the procyons are 3watt leds, and the crees i recently added are 5 watts.

Hello all, Im trying to come up with a good setup for my first grow. My old man is nice enough to let me do it at his house lol, but really he has the perfect location, plus a very ideal closet that i think will work perfectly. The main prob is, he said that he cant run too much watts cause it will blow the breaker or something of that sort. ( he cant even use a dam stove cause it will trip the breaker) So this is whats leading me to use LEDs. Also for the temp. Can any1 tell me if im on the right track? My plan is to divide the closet in half. Its 9ft long, about 4ft wide(maybe a lil less), and im guessing about 8ft tall. So when divided in half, i will have about 4 1/2 feet long, and about 3-4 feet wide, 8 ft tall. I will have two sets of 4 ft fluorescents for one side, the veg room, and im thinking ill go with the 90 watt UFO for the flowering. But another thing is, i want as much weed as possible and as fast as possible. So thought about maybe just starting out with some really good bagseeds, cause i got like an unlimited amount... And do the SOG method with the majority of the closet space, and have a just a little section for for my future mother plant which i think wil prob be ny deisel or white widow. So by the time my mother plant is about 2 months old, my SOG should be 2/3rds done i think. and then i can start some clones, and when there ready to move into flowering, my SOG will be done. Am i just getting ahead of myself? Please give me some of your opinions on how you would grow if you had a closet thats my size. And what do you think is the best method, SOG or just have less plants and let them get bigger? I feel like i have so many more questions, but i dont want to right a novel in this 1 post lol

i also wanted some fast herb (not there yet) so converted to sog, what i did is grew out some seedlings, threw some into flowering after a week and am growing the rest out. with one 90 watt ufo you will want to really pack em tight. just an example.

well ive read that its good to give each plant about 1 sq ft for the SOG method. I was planing to veg them for no more than 1 month, maybe thats way too long? How much do u think i can squeeze under a 90 watt ufo? And also how much area will a 90 watt cover? The manufacturer says it covers 12 sq ft, i wonder how much it REALLY covers.

realistically more like 9 sq ft. i would say you could do 9 clones under it, but not too big or theyll be reaching on the outskirts of the coverage.

Dam, i was hoping just 1 90 LED would work good, im on a tight budget, and just buying that will set me back. My origonal plan was to just use the 4 ft fluorescents for all stages lol, but i figured i would just be disapointed wit hthat outcome, btw, im new to growing, so is a 4 ft fluorescent the same as a CFL, or is a CFL just the small bulbs?

cfl is stronger than the tubes, unless t5 tubes. it may work for more than that, i am just using leds a little excessively. something you may consider is one ufo, and a few warm white cfls, or warm white leds to supplement, as they are pretty cheap

What you COULD do is set your grow up in stages. You'll have a solid month or so until your beauties are ready to go to flowering. My boy is using some Agrolite's High output flouro tubes for his grow, and he's got honestly about 14 plants under it, and they're all happyhappyhappy. Once you get to the flowering stage, then you'll have some cash saved. Pick yourself up the 5-band 180w jumbo ufo and you should be set with your closet space.
