LED Thread regarding stalk weight difference between LED & HPS

Why do led growers make out like hps makes everything hot and led is cooler, i barely need extraction for the minor amount of heat a hps bulb throws out, ambients are a little over room temp, not even hot really...
Im finding the opposite in a little veg tent.
Was using a 130w cfl and now using approx. 69 watts of led strip. I'm at least 5 c cooler.

I'm using a 600w HPS for flower and I wouldn't call them cool. in fact I like the heat it gives me in winter. is it manageable in Summer? Yes, but I don't live in a hot part of the world. Summer were I am may see the odd 40c day but in the main its high 20s to mid 30c's.

A watt of heat is a watt of heat- that's a constant. But leds don't heat a gas. Add the hot gas and the hot reflector (if using ) and the heat sources do add up.

For me it's a matter of less total heat because I can get the ppfd I need with less total watts combined with far less IR than HPS. Because of the reduced IR I have found that my plants actually prefer a higher ambient room temp because the gradient between leaf temp and ambient temp is so much smaller. So the combo of less total watts, running the room warmer to keep the leaf temps optimal, and more of the heat that is produced radiating upwards from the driver (rather than in the form of IR being sent onto the plants) means i do much less to keep my enviroment optimal than i did with HID. On the flip side, when the humidity gets high in the spring I have to fight harder to keep that in check than I did with hps
Leaves enjoy a high temp gradiant, light is heat/transpiration cooling. Your not citing science here and with your model you are closer to a compensation point than hps ergo its bs and they twist biological facts and figures mere growers do not understand.

The radiant heat from a hps does not heat the air much and most air is only passing through briefly with even small amounts of extraction. The bulb itself also has very little chance to heat air that touches its surface... mainly you struggled with hps because your plants werent healthy enough to handle that intensity and led went easier on you.

I run no wind and the lowest of low extraction and in a suitable size tent i have no heat issues all year long. Some sound like they tout led because they never could get hps right.....

Nope i find them very managable heat wise and my plants the same, they are not forgiving on not so healthy plants like leds but you are growing at some very high light intensities.

But your in England from memory..it doesn't get warm there even in summer.
What do you mean I'm growing in some very high light intensity?

As long as i circulate air in and out my tent is barely above room temps, whats the issue. My thermometer sits in the corner, it rises when i put the heating on so i know its tuned to the room temps very well.

Extraction means you pull air in and out but it barely has time to heat up, check the physics by all means...

And there are a growing number of shops ditching led alltogether, as well as growers and then some who just think they are overpriced hype and werent so snakeoiled to buy yesterdays product.

Its like the great rock and roll swindle, advanced nutrients couldnt dream up this crap, some sellers have done well out of you lot, two bucks a watt nice.....

I just didnt come down in the last rainfall, ya'all got conned suck it up.

So your saying that your using a 1000w HPS in a 4 x4 and your tent barely gets up over room temp all year?

My 600HPS in a 4 x 4 in summer can be 10 c hotter than room temps....That's close to very bad on 30c plus day.

Was 47.3 near Tim1987 a few months ago..wack 10c onto that and you have a bad tent day.

Dude as you approach 48°c your talking desert or heat wave in a very hot country, if those are your indoor temps your probably looking at human health problems. Im not even sure many plants tolerate those temps worldwide, maybe some desert cacti.

Tis a lame argument for leds....

Penrith is a city in NSW...Tim1987 lives in the mountains behind it...its not a desert..... I worked there for years..40 plus is a common summer temp.
Your in England you think 25c is hot.

and you still haven't answered my Q's....

Remind me how growers managed to pull massive yeilds from all over the world in hot countries before leds came along.... hps dude, its not as you claim.

Tim should move somewhere less desert temps or consider one of the few plants that tolerate such high conditions in the hot months cause thats hot for even Africa!
