LED light panel

Ok i have secured about 500 super bright LEDs, i work for an electrical engineering company so i have access to all the appropriate supply's and components. I was wondering if anybody has tried to build one of these, if they had a schematic that they used. Has anybody used one of those LEDs panels for growing?? Well i will post more when i start making it, im gonna have to machine some type of enclosure for them too.

thanks for the links! Im not sure of about the specs of the LEDs(i just told my boss to get me the brightest ones he could get preferably red, blue, orange, and white) i will get all of the info when i go to the office. im gonna do some more research before i start making anything, I will post more about it tomorrow, when i have the info.

Hey Kassidy, check out HomeGrownLights.com. 14 watt, 6 x 4.75 panel, 272 lights, not overclocked, 3 red per one blue. Kit ready to plug in if you are buying 11 or more is $30.00. Covers 1 sq. ft. Coverage 25 watts Led = 100 watts of hid. Indica 44 posted a link to an independant test site in my Grow room Setup thread on like page 16 so you don't have to read the whole thread. Results are posted. Best I have seen. VV

so i have decided to wait on this project, i was talking to the head engineer at my work today, and he was telling me how right now LEDs are advancing more and more everyday. Not only that but the are able to make a huge range of colors, a wide range of heat, a wide range of how bright they can be, ect.... not only that but are hundred of types of LEDs. i think most of us here have been looking at those superbright little round bullet LEDs, but i was looking in an application design mag today and found out that those probably arent the best to use, there are this little square LEDs that you can fit more into a smaller space then if you used the bullet LEDS. also i was reading about how engineers are finding new color ranges by lining up certin color LEDs with other color LEDs. So there is still much research to do. I am very intrested in do this though.

Sounds like they are progressing, I'll be keeping tas on this thread. Thanks for the info Kassidy.

All the best

I'm about to invest in an attic grow. This LED shit is looking very promissing due to lack of heat production.

The link he posted for homegrownlights is the most logical I have seen on the led's for growing. He doesn't say you can cover a large are he says 1 sq.ft. per panel. Its a little less than 5" sq. and has 272 bulbs. Smaller panel more bulbs, truth about coverage. After vacation. VV

shit, i should have looked at that mag to get the article. i will get it 2mrw, any ways it also said things about how they can spare a film or colors like, white for example. so you add this film to the white and they say it produces the same color range as flourcent lights, but not as bright or as hot. its really only a matter of time until they can produce the same light range as hps or mh. but the heat and intensty isnt there. SO if you were to say line up a shit load of the correct light spectrum, have them built right into a reflective hood and keep it like 2inches or so from the plant. but anyways thats still probably a little out of reach right now. But i think we will all be suprised how much LEDs are going to take over the lighting market, at least at a residentail level. i mean you may not even know it but on newer laptops now they are starting to use LEDs as backlights!

anyways, im really baked so it might not make alot of sense.

Makes sense to me. They one they are making that goes in the regular florescent figure is ingeneous. And because the lights are directional you don't have to relect it back down it shines down. For industrial appilcations, it could save them thousands. Wouldn't have to change the fixtures just disconnect the ballasts, by pass it and install the tubes. I am sure quantity discounts will be given. The picture they show of a warehouse space with those light, big difference.
I say the information about using them with computer controls and the 'film'. If I remeber right those are not cheap. And with the led's they don't burn them up. VV

Cool! I want to know how this goes.
I was thinking about maybe ordering one from here as an experiment. its cheap enough that I wont be mad if it sucks :)

Good thing. lol. There are probably 30 of those posted on E-Bay. They are just over a ft. sq. with 225 led's. They claim 18 sq. in. coverage. Ryan's has 272, his is just over 5" sq. The test result I saw said one square foot of coverage and that's what Ryan says as well. Best I've seen so far. Until Kassidy builds hers. VV
