Led Growing Is The Way Of The Future My Friends

You'd need at least 2 LED lights for vert to work (somewhat back to back), as LED only puts light out one way (where as an HPS bulb is in every direction). This is a limitation and a strength of LED, more focused light in a targeted area.
i was thinking more for a single plant personal grow, using a 3'x3' tent (couldn't say no to the price of the tent), if i placed the plant in the corner of the tent, and the light vertically so that it reflects off the walls, if the plant were on a motorized turntable in order to rotate one revolution per day, so that each side of the plant faces the LED for at least part of the day each day

LEDS are shit when it comes to flowering. Good for veg (maybe) but they are not the wave of the future. Any body seen the 2,000$ plasma lights yet? I have seen some experimental models in some of the Hydro shops in Boulder. Now thats possibly the future! HID all the way for me still.

Damn.... I think I shall throw all my LEDs away.

Thanks for the heads up dude!

Do you have any pics of your LED grows to back up your claim that they do not flower?
Or are you sending us a message from 2007 and haven't seen the kickass LED grows over the past year?

This is 2011 dude.

That about sums it up. LED tech makes bigs leaps each year and is far better now in mid 2011 than even 1 or 2 years ago. But people have been buying crappy panels still, and most companies haven't been updating their products until this year. There will be a lot less doubt of LED from now on, because most companies are updating so their panels won't be crap anymore.

I am quite happy with my LED harvests. I have HTGs newest 90 watt LED (uses 3 watt diodes powered at 2 watts each, actually operates at 98 watts), and 2 Blackstars (133 watts each)

I am picking up a 4th panel to replace my 1 CFL cab in the next few days, not sure which, I really want to try out a few different companies. GLH and Blackdog have struck an interest above the others. I know for a fact GLH panels work great, but not too sure on the BDs. They do look quite promising.

I use the 90 watt for veg, and the 2 Blackstars and the CFLs for flower, 4 separate cabs.

this is a large concert stage 100' across. The 6 pink looking sources along the bottom are from 5 watt multi color LED arrays. I'm about 100' from the stage. the large rectangle in the back is an LED HD Screen.

I know the 5w arrays are at least 3 years old. I've seen this technology evolve in this industry. this is solid tech. It is very expensive but it is anticipated that the prices will come down. This same pissing match over which is best has passed, now whichever is best is used.

Also drove past the first LED street light I've seen leaving this venue, it looked nice and i would expect to see them popping up everywhere.

No I will admit I never have messed with leds. Yes the technology keeps getting better. But im just not impressed with the flowering results. However I DO have friends that use them. But when push comes to shove my hid products always pack a better punch. Always very compact and dense-not airy/wispy, and my yields crush LEDS. Who the hell would fill a ware house with LEDS? Ever see that in High Times? Impractical and ridiculous! Cost INEFFECTIVE as shit!!! Shit, plus the extra amount of product from each HID harvest that a led could never produce will EASILY cover your electricity bills and bulb costs. Different strokes for different folks. I should not have come out so harshly about LED's like I did. But this is my opinion. And opinions are like assholes. Everyone has em. And they all stink! :)

Sorry Gary will try and not hate so much next time.

Why are you making an opinion on them then? If you don't know (and in order to know, you have to have experience with them), your opinion is worthless.

There is more than 1 kind of LED panel out there. Just cause one guy has a crappy model and didn't like it, doesn't mean they are all bad.

It's like me buying an car. Make it a Honda Civic. And I end up disliking it. And I go and say your Toyota (which I have never even seen) is a piece of crap because of my unsavory experience with my Honda.

I'd sound like a jackass if I did.

What do you think of this for a grow light?

14 band LED PAR grow lamp

The 106 Ledbox
306 watts

The 213 Ledbox
612 watts

The 425 Ledbox
1224 watts

Well considering Pro Source has 1500$ dollar lights that is a major turn off for me right there after visiting their site. You could buy 4 complete HID sets for the price of one of those crap lights. (I could pump out 6 lbs easily out of those 4 hids) (nothing compared to what that one piece of shit led could ever dream of. The only reason this company has a ware house full of these lights, is cuz they are sponsored and help make them. Who the hell can afford that weak shit, out of their own pocket? $1500.......YIKES! And YES, MY PARTNERS use them, so that pretty much means I use them (considering I take care of their gardens on the regular) I work in the medical industry in a warehouse. So I work side by side with leds, hid, and a few plasmas. Dont tell me I dont know shit, just cuz I have'nt bought them for personal use. You guys work LEGALLY LICENSED by the State? Im guessing not. So guess what? Through out our rooms of plasma, led, and hid. Guess who wins everytime? (since we have comps, and worse rooms gets a pretty pink room next time around) HID WINS HANDS FUCKING DOWN EVERY TIME WHERE I WORK!

p.s. Bad Karma. That video did nothing for me but make me laugh and shake my head at such a weak setup. Mother fuckers got T5's in a ware house. HA! HA! HA! HA! Oh snap their electricity bills are cut in half. Yet they cant afford to use better lighting or even their precious LEDS in the veg room yet. Their was no science there what so ever. Drop the science and numbers and make me a believer! I BEG OF YOU!!!! SHOW ME WHY!!!

Besides that, what have we learned from the history of technological advances? Beta technology ALWAYS sucks and has bugs. Guess why? Cuz its new and is a rip off. Why you ask? Cuz you are paying for research and development costs of a piece of shit product, rather than the real deal tough stuff. This follows suit to the mmj field, tvs, blu-ray players, research chemicals, and turd burgers that are made of shit yet costs 20 times more than regular meat, (thanks japan) etc etc.

The only people I know that use LED's are newbs, kids, and people afraid of the electric company thinking they grow. (If you are one of the 3 you should re-evaluate why you are even growing to begin with. (cant take the heat, get of the kitchen)

I dont know any one who bought LED's for their AWESOME YIELDING TECHNOLOGY.

Harrekin knows whats up.

Bottom line, the price is a joke, and so are the yields. Sure they have come a long way over time. But its still not enough to crush the grow scene yet.

http://youtu.be/HDvSPQ7megQ (in case you are wondering what the hell im talking about with Japan and eating really expensive shit burgers)

Shit, the day that LED trump HID weights, and prices I will become a believer. Until then I will just sit by the side and shake my head a little and laugh to myself. Once again sorry for the shitty opinion.

I started growing in 1993. Since then I have used or tried T12, MV, HPS, MH, T5, CFL, and the latest LED.

I have not used or tried induction lighting. Yet. I am open minded about new things and will give them a chance before being a dumbass and making an opinion about them without having any knowledge on them.

For the most part, yes only newbs use LEDs, and I will explain why:

LEDs are a newer technology compared to fluoros, HPS and MH. All or most of the experienced growers already have their HPS setups up and running and dialed in, there is no reason for them to try a new technology, when theirs is working fine already. (I just happen to be a guy that likes to check out new technologies, I just didn't make the switch to LED all at once, I bought a small panel and did a grow on the side before deciding on buying more panels)

That leaves the newbs. They are more likely to give LED a try before others. They are also more than likely to fuck up growing and make newb mistakes and therefor make LEDs look bad. They buy a $50 China panel off of Ebay and grow a gram or 2, and then cry that LEDs don't work. Period.

There are plenty of great LED harvests all over the web (gotta be careful, there are some fake videos and journals out there by some of the shady LED companies claiming multiple grams per watt) There are plenty of legit ones, and people willing to get off their lazy ass and go see instead of running their mouth on an internet forum behind the veil of probably their mommies computer (yeah I am referring to you Reefer Creature) without knowing what they're talking about.

I will definitely admit, LEDs are indeed expensive. But I also choose to grow with them because HPS just can't go anywhere, and I am not content with CFLs. Besides, I only grow for myself, in my own home where I don't want hot bulbs and ballasts running, or loud fans blasting 24/7. LEDs work perfect for me, and I have been getting good harvests with them. Nice buds that aren't in the least airy. They are dense and covered in trics. And I get just as high off of LED bud as I do HPS bud or outdoor bud.

Different lighting situations will work for different people in different ways.

The most important thing I will say in my post here is:

No one is holding a gun to your head telling you what light to buy. You are free to buy whatever kind of light you want. You all can try to grow a plant with a flashlight for all I care.

If you do not feel comfortable paying the LED prices, don't. Simple as that.

Again you're buying multiple panels just to TRY replace a single HPS...it doesn't matter if there is good LEDs,they're still 10 times too expensive tho! Pretty sure LED users are just butt-sore they threw so much money into a pointless light fixture.

Gary you are right. No one is holding a gun to my head, and I should not hate so much. And it truly IS DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS. You grow at home with safety reasons on your mind. (heat and fan noise as well) I am in the medical field where we actually have cannabis insurance policies, for fire and theft. Its not im my house so creature comforts are of no concern. So I cant totally see both of our arguments having valid points. Bottom line, ill stop the hate preaching.

We are all here for one thing, and that is cannabis. There is no reason to bash how others grow. It is childish and immature.

It is difficult to teach and/or learn when people have to read past all the yelling, bashing, name calling and insults to get to the actual good info.

If I had it my way, I'd be growing outside. To me, nothing beats the sun. And it is free.

This whole thread is one big LED hate thread, and it should be deleted. LEDs grow pot. That's all there is to it. Who cares if someone else likes a different way of growing better? Do what YOU do, and don't worry about how others do what THEY do.

Isn't cannabis supposed to be a happy thing anyways?

Said it before and i'll say it again...i love my led lights, everything about them...i cant say the same for my hps equipment. I can't stand it when people are so anti anything different. I have my reasons why I prefer led over hps, but I don't go around hating on hps setups. I put a journal up on riu of my led grow and got zero hate mail, lots of props, and a ton of confidence in led technology and abilities. I hope others join in and support growing of any kind

Sadly, he does not.
I love that I'm a "noob", even though I've been growing for over a decade.
This "noob" has used HPS, CFL, T5, and LED in his garden over the years.
My ProSource LED's have worked the best for me out of all those.
My "noob" skills are so bad with my LED's that the cuttings I sell to the local dispensaries are only described as the "healthiest" that they carry.
An HPS light may yield about 10%-15% more bud then the LED setup I currently use, but it would also cost about 3 times as much a month for the A/C needed to cool the grow tent sufficiently.
