Say i just dump a bag of dirt on existing vegetation then plant my sprouts in there how well will they do? More than half as good as worked dirt?

laziness holds no place in the world of growing, u want to attempt to do the best u can with the time and resources u have, not dump some dirt, plop a seed in and hope u get weed

Just dig a hole, lay some cheap tomato plant soil, and feed with some cheap organic nutrients; mine is $9 a bottle.

If you don't want to take care of the plants then just grow tobacco plants, they're tougher.
