lake water for watering???

hey all, hope this is the right place

i live in northern michigan on a chain of spring fed lakes... I had to work late and the girls that are located in my sig are needin a waterin purty bad.

it might sound like a silly question, but is this cool?? i mean, id drink it if need be, but it wont introduce some crazy cannabis killin algae or fungus will it??

in the scouts they said 1 drop/gallon for drinking water if you cant boil it.

Assuming it's a pristine lake (untouched by human pollution) then it's fine, same stuff plants use naturally.

Spring water is natures nectar. We have springs all over and use them for the outdoor grows.

right, i was visiting a spring myself but its just not possible tanight...

all the added micro-organisms and algae, increased mineral content, fish waste by-products, and so on, i'd say use that water at least once a week.
although make sure it's not COLD. you'll shock the roots, delaying growth for two to three days or worse.

makes sense to me, we add kelp and bone meal and guano to the soil we make so I guess it sounds loike mother nature is making her own. good advice on the tempo of the water as well.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. Sure, plants in the wild can drink it but I go for strict control over water/food etc... and pretty paranoid about what goes into my grow room.

I agree, I use rain water and I live in a city, everyone always say's why you using rain water man, that's not good, blah de blah de blah...

Use the lake water man, even if humans shit in it!!! A lot of drinking water has been through human beings several times (a fact!!!)

Only thing I would disagree with slightly is the temparature...this shouldn't bother the plants that much unless it is like ice cold...and even then I think it would be negligable. Good luck bru.

I agree. I don't take anything from outside into my growroom. This is one of the number 1 ways people introduce diseases and pests into their nice, clean artificial environments.

hey jlh1983, i use spring water from the creek here by the house for my hydro, my plants seem to love it, but the down side is that you have to adjust your nutes and add some h202.

hey all thanks for the replies--- i ended up boiling a total of 8 gallons of lakewater in separate pots for roughly 15min of "rolling boil"... set it all outside for like 2 hours till it was down to 75deg F.... they should be fine... wont doit again tho, all together that shit took like 5 hours---- works in a pinch i guess.

*** note to self: avoid pinches!!

i wasn't speaking of theory or opinion but on research, experience, and basic understanding of organic processes and photosynthesis.
I also stand by the temperature statement, it's been documented by numerous professional growers, the main one that it would be quoted from his grower's guide would be ed rosenthal.
you don't want the water to be colder or hotter then the ambient air temperature, more than 10-12 degrees celcius can damage/ shock the roots.
if you don't believe me look it up, standard horticulture procedure.

you lost all the good stuff, and i believe you when you said you won't do it again, let me ask you this, does this lake have life in it?
if so the water will be beneficial to your plants, can someone tell me what plant flu epidemic has ever been traced to lake water?
plants don't get giardia and other pathogens or parasites.
If there is any valid concern opposing my beliefs, please let me know.
The hardened, treated, chlorinated, crap, contaminated with hormones, that the public gets from the faucet is far worse, from a plant's stand-point anyways.

right on... i ended up doing some research locally and via the web... its fine... used it prolly a dozen more times straight from the end of the dock w NO adverse effects.... just paranoid

i would use because it has good fertilizers from fish and what not

i dont know about lake water i have a swim pool and it is covered in winter and up untill i open it with its winter cover this year for some reason i started the year organic and i normally drain water from pool cover into sewer i started putting it on my vegitable garden bushes and fruit trees all loved it i used a little inside seemed to like it as well the water had leaf and pollen brekdown in it was very stinky like a small lake or a stagnet pond in a park al diff organisms going on

i also started a worm farm on my back deck about once a week i run water through and collect the tea from worm shit dilute it 10 to one add to everything inside and outside all loveing it some serrious micro organisms for soil
