Dan Kone-

Wouldn't it be better to make hash outta that and move that instead? You have saved them a production step, and it's pretty much a finished product at that point... I have yet to have any 'pounds' of kief to worry about! :)

The yields I can get with kief are more than double what I can get with bubble. I'm doing dry ice kief. Total extraction is about 35%. Half of that being cooking grade. So about 15% high grade. That's pretty efficient.

If Kief is going for around the same price as hash, why make it into hash when I can get a better yield?

Try dry ice sifting and you can have that problem pretty easily.

Ah...so it really depends on the price they offer for kief, true enough. Tell me more about this 'dry ice sifting' of which you speak...sounds interesting!

You put your trim and dry ice in a bubble bag, then shake it over something to collect the kief. I use a big plastic storage bin. Then you scrape off the kief. The longer you shake, the lower the quality. I'm doing two collections. I shake for a while until it starts to get a green tint, collect it all, then keep shaking to collect the low grade.

For every 100 grams of trim, I'm getting 35 grams of kief, very consistently. It's about half and half high grade, low grade. That's significantly better than any bubble has run I've done.

I've been checking weed maps for kief prices, it seems to be retailing at $20 a gram just about everywhere. Sometimes more, rarely less. So that'd be about $10 per gram wholesale. That's about as much as most decent hash goes for unless you're making really bomb full melt. So better yield + same or better money. Seems like a better idea to me than making bubble hash.

I highly advise using a container to collect it rather than doing it on a glass table otherwise you'll lose a lot. It tends to form a cloud.

Thanks for the info, def gotta try that as it looks amazingly simple and effective...both things I love. I checked around town here and you can get kief grams from some of the dispensaries here (Denver area) for $9.99 gram...that's pretty cheap considering thats marked up already!

Cannot post links to them here for obvious reasons, but PM if you wanted to check. I'm sure the prices flucuate regionally as well. +rep for sharing the sifting info, much thanks! :)

remember to always refine your kief with at least one cleaning to take out any outside trash objects ie lil shake particles hair and what not if possible...i use the APE pollen extractor and it works awesome you get your bulk then you sift that through screens so its so much faster... as it starts at 220 and you can work it down to what ever.... i will try to post a vid of some full melt dry sift i make.. but to be honest i prob wont be posting much around the parts in the future but i will do my best to contribute before i leave

Also wanted to add that I hope that isn't the case. You seem to be an excellent poster and you should stay.

yes, dry ice dry screening is great, ive been doing that for a few years now. we've been calling it DIE (dry ice extract)

I'm not Matt, but I have an answer so I'll respond.

No. Kief making isn't a shortcut to concentrate making. It's not all around superior to bubble hash. I prefer it to bubble hash because it's smoother to smoke. But I do not think it's as strong.

Like bubble hash, it varies widely in quality.

I'm making it based on my personal observations that buyers aren't stoked on average quality bubble hash due to the large amounts of bubble hash on the market. Why would they want to buy something they already have a lot of? Kief is just being made in lower quantities than bubble has at them moment, which is why the general higher pricing exists.

It's not a quick way to produce the same result as bubble hash. It's not superior to hash. It's just different than hash. Hash is in general stronger. Kief is much smoother. When I take a hit of hash, I can't hold it in as long and it doesn't make my lungs feel real great. Kief is just as smooth as smoking a bowl, if not more so. That allows me to take a bigger hit, and hold it in longer. When I exhale, my lungs generally feel fine. It's better than smoking a bowl IMO, and just different than smoking hash.

Generally, I don't think you can reach the same peak high with kief than you can with bubble hash though.

Of course I could be wrong about that. I may make a batch of kief with high grade trim and use a 120 micro screen instead of just a standard 220 work bag. I did manage to make one small batch of kief with bubble to it. Although I wouldn't describe it as "full melt", but it was close. That leads me to believe it might be possible, it's just a matter of perfecting a technique.

But at the same time, that isn't my primary purpose for making the kief, so I'm not going to spend too much time on it. My purpose is getting the highest yield combined with the highest market value. In that, I'm pretty convinced kief is the way to go.
