Jack Herer. First time grow. Small Tent SCROG. [Take 2]

[posting inline this time]

Just basics here, pics start at next post.

Legal grow. One plant, SCROG, in soil (7gal), in a small tent.

It was successful but there were a lot of mistakes along the way

Most important thing I learned - do not panic. .These plants are tough and can still produce.
Unless you have spider mites, then PANIC!

Gear: Only pricey stuff was the tent and LED.
- Tent 2 x 2.5 (got a closeout deal on a Gorilla tent w/ height extention) In retrospect, I'd have tried to find a 2x4. But honestly this thing is built like a tank and keeps the stinkiness inside super well, and the light out w/ zipper covers and all that.

- LED [a true 200w]

Otherwise the usual
mini fan, homemade pvc scrog setup, humidity/temp gauges, inline bathroom fan (good CFM) and active charcoal filter..

Soil mix was roughly 50/25/25 composts/perlite/peatmoss.
Fertilizer was organic, mostly fish emulsion and some bloom focused fertilizers.

Also it was safely indoor, no bugs except a couple fungus gnats which were easily dealt with.
But - no real humidity or temperature control available in the space.

Lucky w/ the germination it was really fast.
FIMMED and it worked!
SCROG and it works
The Scrog PVC frame is super simple to make. I'll definitely use this again.

Screwed up by underwatering and keeping the seedling for too long quite close to a T5 florescent (about 2" or less). Plant took a very long time to develop. And was bushy (see images). Didn't get any early stretch I'm seeing from my next plant.

But, I read the advice here, didn't panic. It worked out fine.

1) fimmed transplant to 7 gallon move to tent

2) scrog weave on homemade pvc frame (I think 1.5" spacing, maybe 10" over the soil)

3) feminized seeds (Question - the threads at the nodes.. I think that's the indication of a female, right?)

Think this was pre-flower (?) since I was still on 18:6 light and the weather was consistent 70s.

Last 20 days before flower. 18h light cycle. Long time in veg I think overall close to 2 months, not one.
2L of water every few days. Some liquid fish fertilizer once a week.

PICS

- first is 10 days from the previous journal entry

- this one is 10 days after that, pretty bushy.

This last picture is about when I went to flower with 12/12.

In retrospect I could have let it go a bit longer. It did fill out as you'll see would have been better waiting a bit more.

Next up flowering

Try adding the pics as attachments, and not inline with the post.....its been years since ive posted anything here, and the new model of this site is pretty confusing ;)

Thanks Herk.. just catching up with the posts, curing now. Lots of questions on mistakes along the way.

Week 4 starts and baby trichs are visible (if you click the thumb). Week 3-4 normal or late for that?

Week 5 Day 4.
10 days after the last post.

Pics show some evidence (?) a couple errors in the slow bushy start and then rushing it a bit to get it into flower. Grid is overall (2x2.5)

Looking at the pics. The scrog worked! But I think it would have been better a couple inches higher where it branches, making more of a "T" and also letting the canopy grow out and up through the screen more. In the end the buds, didn't make it all the way through the screen and grew below and above it.

Seeing this sugar starting to happen in the next image made me pretty happy. This is 32 days or so in flower.
Anyone know, maybe it's a bit slow? Still I didn't kill the plant!

WEEK 8

OOOPS

Weird weather - mid-90s... then cool (50s)

STRANGE PURPLE LEAVES... wtf...

Second pic down shows this is triggered by light.. The part of the leaf in shadow is green (as is undergrowth).
#dontpanic (yet). I have a theory, but anyone know what this is?

WEEK 9

A little more purple coloration concentrated on the leaves exposed by light.
Expected this might be nutrient lock related..so I flushed a good amount and then stopped watering this week.

WEEK 9.

A couple tips of purple leaves look burnt.. (Reading online maybe nitrogen burn, leading to lock out of Phosphorous??)

Trichomes are getting cloudy, a couple ambers but just on some buds. Getting close.

Amount of the colas which are under the screen is about 1/2 to 1/3rd.. which is annoying but turned out ok. Switched to flower too early

Week 10-11

Harvest!

Trichs

Here are two microscope captures from the same bud/location w/ different depth (focus)
Note the big difference between cloudy:amber heads on the same bud. Found similar ranges between colas, but on a single bud just a fraction of an inch away was a surprise.

Closer...
Looks like the sea anemone of happiness

Ok nothing massive like I see here but pretty good looking I think..

Pics are before the trimming was done. But I did get a bit lazy at the end. Save time time since I'm not entering a beauty contest and I didn't want to hack off all the sugar leaves which were pretty covered.

1 month cure to 62%rh Fully trimmed out and cured yield was 100gr (3.5oz)

Lost a ton of weight during dry and cure- but not a bad yield for what I was expecting first time out. I figure it's about 1/2 gr per watt.

I care about the quality waymore than yield. I'm familiar with Herer which is why I chose the strain, to see if I could produce something worthwhile [ forgetting the debates of what's "real Jack" - this was Vision seeds ]

All I can say is that after the cure this was classic Jack.., strong, energetic, smooth smoke/vape with that amazing evergreen smell and taste.
