So, I was thinking maybe for people thinking of growing the first time out I'd offer some observations:

  • Search this site for answers. The knowledge and experience is astounding. Except politics..stay away from those threads.
  • Prepared for the grow to take a while. You expect things to happen in certain time frames you hear about.. but those are just estimates. I had a pretty long veg (7 weeks??), then flowering took 10 weeks. Drying 1 week, curing 4 weeks (and more). Anyway, enjoy the journey.
  • It will get stinky. Plan for that.
  • Simple works. For example, growing in soil was a good first choice. I got to keep things organic and didn't worry about pumps quitting or nutrient timetables or water ph. Maybe I'll try that later but for now simple limited the number of things to keep tabs on. Also simple means cheaper startup costs.
  • Small works and reduces the work by a lot (harvesting in particular). And even with just one plant, and 2x2.5 tent it was totally worth it in my opinion.
  • You can't control all the variables and it's pretty impossible not to make mistakes. I made a number but probably that effected yield more than anything else...and I'm happy with the yield and super happy with the quality.
  • Don't panic. Unless you have spider mites..then burn it..burn it all with fire.
