ISO Extraction

Hi completely new to doing anything to my weed other than sticking it in papers or a bong so any advice if appreciated.

Im looking to turn 28g of bottom bag / pop corn nugs into concentrate using iso there are endless methods from 20 second soak to 5 mins different prep to ingredients and now that my products have arrived I am a little overwhelmed with options. What do you guys recommend?

Also what is the best way to know if the iso has fully purged im not using a vacuum chamber which i might get hate on but right now that aint in budget. Just wondering as articles and videos online all have different end results from runny to thick from honey colour to black tar... how do i know when its complete and ready.

Planning on using wax liquidizer and making some carts with the end concentrate as my new apartment has unfriendly neighbours to the smell of weed.

Iv never heard of people using iso for wax?

Seemed quiet a popular extraction method on youtube reddit etc.. you can use things like everclear etc but im from UK and cant get anything like that for some reason.... so iso will have to do

The colder the better, everything into the freezer for a day or two.
Weed in an airtight container, cover with ISO & agitate.
Put back into freezer for 15 minutes, shake again, freezer again (repeat if you want).
Strain & let settle someplace cool and dark. Run it through a coffee filter.
Got a still to reclaim the ISO?
When the solution no longer smells of alcohol, it's ready.

IMO - Bubble hash, Dry Ice hash & Rosin press are all easier.

100% sure its okay to keep them mixed for that long is it not "safer" doing a quick wash?

I tried the ISO method once. I boiled off the ISO in a slow cooker OUTSIDE of the house. I added a bit of water. because water has a higher boiling point than alcohol. when the water boils then you know all the alcohol is gone. It made a powerful concentrate that turned me into a zombie but the black thick tar was difficult and messy to work with.

The longer the wash, the more other stuff the alcohol will extract from the leaves. Recipes I read said to shake anywhere from 30-60 seconds but I shook for 2 minutes and the extract was dark and a bit harsh.

Pressing rosin is way faster than boiling iso.

Here’s what’s up. I went down this road many years ago at this point. You can make excellent quality alcohol extractions safely at home without a vac pump or worrying about blowing up.

At the bottom of my post here there is a link to my grow journal where I explain the whole process I use to make golden delicious terpene filled extracts. It’s the simplest method I’ve found for good yields and quality without investing in presses or fancy extraction equipment.

The biggest keys are keeping all the alcohol and material cold. I freeze everything for 24 hours before I extract.

Doing fast washes. My extraction process takes a total of about 5 minutes to do 3 washes. The first wash is 30seconds and produces a great yield of perfect golden oil. The second wash is 30 seconds and produces a good yield of decent quality smokeable oil. The third wash I usually let got for a minute and it produces a small yield of edible grade oil.

After the washes I re freeze the alcohol for a couple hours and then filter it through some coffee filters to get out any residual organic material that might have made it through my first filter.

If you evap your alcohol in a large Pyrex dish you can easily have finished oil in about 24-36 hours. I evap with NO HEAT so that it retains more terpenes. Usually I evap a quart of alcohol at a time to keep the batch quality separate. I put a cheap CLEAN furnace filter over the dish to keep out dust and I place a fan blowing over the surface of the alcohol. The air movement and thin film eliminate the need to vac purge. When it’s done you will have a dish with a thin layer of oil on the bottom that you scrape up with a razor blade. That oil should basically be a dry crystal when you scrape it.

Trust this man! He knows his shit! I have followed his (he will never claim its his) tech for many runs! It makes amazing stuff! Many a folks compliment how terpy it is for concentrate. Ok done fan boiing hahahahaha but seriously this is it.

Cold filtering separates the fatty lipids(paraffin wax) from the delta 9 the profiles and will create a shatter. If you do not cold filter you likely will end up with a waxy product as there will be residual lipids left. Use none bleached filters.

As far as a soak is concerned, the less time you wash the cleaner the end product. Alcohol is moderately polar which means it can and will pull chlorophyll giving you a green tinge the longer it is left to soak. 120 proof everclear is what I had used before and I have used 97% iso. I wouldn't really recommend either. And screw butane, hexane and CO2. All healthy scoops of brain cancer imo. I simply use rosin anymore or bubble hash with distilled water. ZERO contamination.

Iso evap process is just letting it sit out or to use a hot plate to keep the dish warm, not hot or a water bath. Problem is the more you heat it the more you'll burn off your tasty terps.

I'm getting married this weekend and won't be around. I wish I had some links to share to explain it all. Personally I have only soaked for 5 minutes before filtering while vigorously shaking for 30 second every minute. Color of soaked fluid is somewhat dependent on plant. If you are aiming for the least amount of contamination I would aim for a golden color, stopping if I see any green hue. You will lose some product this way. As always, research, research, research. Just try to have a good time and not worry too much. Keep away from flames. Not just because it can have extraordinary consequences but you'll burn off all the good stuff.

One of my friends has a $1,500 rosin press.
The problem is that the little baggies are expensive and not reusable.
I can't remember how many grams can be put into a baggie but
it would take lots of baggies to press 200 grams of cannabis.

Yes, the end product is very good but I find mass extraction using alcohol to be faster.

I haven't made any for years but when I did I soaked for about 30 seconds and strained then evaporated. Just one wash. Probably left a bunch behind but what I did get was damn good. I've used 90% isopropyl but prefer 190 proof grain alcohol.

I always got best result with a mason jar of material, cover with iso, and shake the hell out of it for 30 seconds and dump. The longer you do it the more shit it will dissolve and turn green and nasty. There is a natural tendency to try to get more by shaking longer...resist. Then just dump into glass dish and let evaporate and don't think of touching it till it's 100% dry. Good stuff will almost be like shatter. You can collect it in a baggie and dump into hot water and it will melt right down and you can make balls with it. Good shit. My younger friends keep giving me all kinds of stuff, dabs, live-rosin, etc etc. Good qwiso is every bit as good.
